Oakwood - accommodation in Washington

I had a confirmed amount from Expedia that my hotel room would cost prior to arrival at the hotel, and was surprised to learn that my actual price was going to be $10 more; I didn't have the information with me at check in because it was in an email, I found it later. The room I reserved did not have a kitchenette; the room I was given did. I can only assume that they ran out of rooms in the category I reserved and upgraded me to a larger room, passing the cost on to me. (This had nothing to do with the hold on my credit card for the room. I am accustomed to that.) While initially annoyed at the bait and switch, my companion and I eventually appreciated having the kitchenette at our disposal. The hotel is older but well maintained. The maids were prompt and thorough. We left a tip the third morning for the maid, thinking it was the same person all three nights, and were chagrined to see an older gentleman, not the woman we'd spoken with previously, coming towards our room. I hope they have a kitty or a pot to share tips as some wait staff does at restaurants. I will consider this hotel on future trips to Washington, and will keep my antennae up to be on alert for anything unusual at the front desk.
