NEVER STAY in this hotel

Everything in this hotel was terrible except the first day breakfast, which was decent and not rushed. Our room was dingy, smelly. Shower handle didn’t work, so water was either cold or very hot. It was impossible to sleep at night because of a noise of some machinery working underneath of the hotel and because of freeway closeness. Without noise canceling earbuds it was impossible to sleep. The hotel should invest in noise proofing, like new windows. Staff were also not helpful and ignorant! I asked to upgrade the room (paying for an upgrade), but they lied saying they were fully booked, while any booking site showed availability of many rooms. They also refused to provide management and owner’s information and contacts. I would recommend NEVER STAYING in this hotel!

Poor reception desk service..No introduction..welcoming a paid customer.No elevator...Basic room. Smelled old and wet. Shower with mold in the corners. Toilet handle needed to be jiggled..each tine..wouldn't stop running. Sink kept filling up with water.Poorly draining. View was overlooking the freeway..and a bunch of storage of broken down air conditioning units....Restaurant with limited selection of food items that kept running out and staff needed to be reminded to refill. They kick you verbally st 1000 promptly. How rude! Side walks need cleaning..bird crap everywhere...plants were pretty to look at. Called the front desk several times..no answer..to figure out how to adjust the temperature in the room. Refused to extenf me an extra hour..wanted ro charge an extra $25 dollars..for the extra hour.... Not flexible..poor management. House keeping staff..no english but accomodating and cordial. Unlike the front desk staff..who need more training in how to offer friendlier service to customers. I will not be recommending this place to anyone for the money..nor will I ever book here in the future..carry ur own bags..up/down the stairs..WHAT.!.. For $234 a night I'll book elsewhere next time...Their staff at the front desk need better training....this place should be rated a #0.5 star facility..it didn't even make the #2.5 Rating they claim to have ...GO Elsewhere...try the Hampton Inn instead....anywhere but here....

Once California Gem, currently under construction

The hotel is very much under renovations, which I didn't realize when booking our stay. The historic lobby is behind chain link fence, while registration is housed in a small dark corner room in one of the hotel wings. Much of the place looks rundown, but there are definite signs they're trying to improve it. - The bed in our room was fine, but not great. - The room was generally clean, though there was used dental floss in the trashcan when we arrived. - There was an extension cord just draped over the headboard to provide power to the lamps and allow you to plug your phone in. - the air conditioner was very effective, but also very loud. - Water pressure in the shower was really low - it looked like there was likely a good amount of mineral buildup. - Breakfast was powdered eggs, bacon, potatoes, and a toaster that took an average of 3 passes through for toast to get even a little toasted. Paper plates and flimsy plastic silverware was what was provided. What I did like was the incorporating of Californian history in some of the architecture and in memorabilia on the walls. Also, the staff seems to be trying hard, but with very few resources in hand, and that should be recognized! This hotel has so much history, I hope it can be returned to some of its former glory soon.

Nice property

Location is great near the beach. The room was dated, but nice. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast did not have great options so none of us ate it and we ended up going out for food. Some fresh fruit and yogurt would've been nice. My biggest complaint was the unaccommodating young lady at the front desk. We had three people in our room, but only two towels were provided. When I went to the front desk to ask for another towel, it was apparent that I had interrupted this young gals phone time and she seemed very bothered to have to get up and get us another towel. Rude.

Hotels says there isn't a parking fee there is one for $10 a night and if you'd like to stay late it's $25 hr. The breakfast was mid. And the restaurant is closed
