Basics Missing

The pool and location was amazing but everything else lacked for the price paid. Rooms were nice but basic and dated, breakfast was very poor with little choice available, mini pastries were the only thing available and coffee was inedible filter. We didn't eat at the restaurant but it appeared busy and again the location/view was great. We went for a drink at 9pm and were snapped at because the restaurant and bar were apparently due to close at 8pm. Felt like we were there for the properties convenience instead of vice versa. A shame as it has a lot of potential.

Dated but delightful

Amazing view. Waves pounding on the rocks. Exceptional dining. Beautiful pool. The rooms however are clean but dated with few amenities. I measured the distance from the shower head to the drain was 5’2”. I’m not saying the rooms need a major overhaul but the little persons shower head needs replacing and relocating. Also like many shoreline hotels, no AC. However because of the incredible view and dining we will stay here again.

Beds were comfortable. Lounge chairs were comfortable. Oceanfront was nice. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The Shoals restaurant food is just okay. Inadequate number of parking spaces for hotel guests, because some are reserved for restaurant parking only.

Pretty good stay

Great views and a nice sized King room. Has everything you need for a comfy stay. With a little attention to detail, this place could be great. The pool area was relaxing but could use cleaning throughout the day; it got pretty gross by mid afternoon. We had to ask housekeeping to have our sticky floor cleaned again. And the alarm clock was never reset after the prior guest, so it went off at 6am. Also note that there aren’t other bars and restaurants in walking distance. You’ll need a car or rideshare to get to any kind of activity.

Great location, view and service

Great location with ocean view, as descripted, beautiful lawn and garden. Seeing dolphins in the morning from the window. Very good breakfast and dinner selections.

Stress relieving stay

Our favorite getaway! Hot water in shower an issue AGAIN, (every stay), but overall a beautiful stay. Shoals restaurant was a disappointment. Service was slow and just average. Understaffed. Paper menus, really? Food was good, not excellent. Besides all that, overall a beautiful property. Needs some work, but we will return.

Terrible! Don’t stay here!

We went here for our wedding anniversary weekend only to have to leave after the first night. This is a hotel that needs to be torn down and start over with new construction. It’s old and smells like mold and old cigarettes. Paint is peeling everywhere and needs walls that are made for soundproofing so you’re not hearing the people in the room next door having sex and his bed frame banging on the wall between us. We could hear everything and the words they are speaking. The bed was us bad as sleeping in a hammock! You can’t even move in the bed without it making so much noise it keeps you awake. I could barely move in the morning because it messed up my back. The breakfast they advertised was a total joke! It was like being at a homeless soup kitchen. This is a flea bag hotel! It’s sad because this is a beautiful location and they have a wonder restaurant but the hotel needs to be completely redone.

The property is right by the ocean with beautiful view but no direct access to the beach. The room is nice and clean, hss ceiling fan but no AC, shower has low water pressure. Staff are wonderful and very kind.

The good: Ambiance is quiet and peaceful. Staff were all nice and helpful. Rooms are antique looking but clean. Restaurant food was delicious. They served a descent continental breakfast with fruit, toast, cold cereal, desserts, yogurt, juice and. Coffee. The kids enjoyed the pool everyday. The water was warm. Used bicycle trail on PCH to walk to near beach. It was a nice a walk in the morning with small kids. Located near Santa Barbara, Solvang, Ojai and other attractions. Loved it, will return. The bad: near PCH and can hear the traffic at night. Traffic seemed to quiet down a little for a few hours between 1am-4am. Bring ear plugs if sensitive to noise.

Hot water suddenly became cold many times during showers, parking during restaurant hours was abysmal, and the continental breakfast left a lot to be desired (an inn with its own restaurant should offer more). But being able to leave windows open throughout my entire stay, and falling asleep to the surf every night, made up for these deficiencies. Overall I would recommend staying here, as long as you're okay without certain creature comforts.

This is the best hotel I have ever stayed at. Period. It's not fancy, but it is clean and the view and sounds of the crashing waves is amazing. All of the other guests that I bumped into at breakfast were walking on clouds as I was. It is a little secret paradise.

I liked the quiet and privacy of the location. Staff were friendly and helpful. Although the rooms are very comfortable, It is a old hotel so there are dings in the walls and baseboards, so ants came in. The ants were quickly taken care of. I would always choose to stay here If they were dog friendly.
