Vietnam’s Sapa sits in the north of the country and is a popular place for people who like to get out and explore! The mountains, hills, rice paddies, and fields create some truly beautiful landscapes, and the ethnic groups that live in the area make it even more interesting. Fairly remote, it’s a perfect place for people who like natural beauty and peaceful environments. Not far from the border with China, the closest airport to Sapa is Hanoi. In the mountains, the climate in Sapa is often cooler than in other parts of Vietnam, allowing you to enjoy a break from the hot and humid summers. The main town is very accessible on foot, and you can see a selection of colonial buildings within the surrounding area. You can visit traditional villages and learn all about the different people that call the area home. The different groups include H’Mong, Tay, Dao, Hoa, Thai, Muong, Xa Pho, and Giay, as well as ethnic Vietnamese. See how the locals make traditional clothes and crafts, and perhaps even buy some great souvenirs to remind you of your time in Sapa. The Sapa Cultural Museum allows you to learn more about the area’s rich diversity and heritage.
A major reason for people to visit Sapa is the scenery. Hiking and trekking is the perfect way to forget all your cares and simply enjoy the incredible natural beauty all around. Some popular spots include Heaven’s Gate, Ham Rong Resort, and Sapa Lake. Wonderful views can be enjoyed from all of the hills and mountains.
