Cleanliness was fine. But since we came in to them from the internet, we were treated differently. We have stayed there as of late with our Mayo visits and booked thru the hotel, We were put in another wing - older and not as nice. Is that because of our lesser rates??? Is that how it is for internet booking? Just wondering.

Valet service is available due to limited parking, making it convenient for patients. The staff is very helpful, and there is water available in the lobby for guests to drink. The building has been updated to meet modern standards.

This Kahler hotel and hotels.com are terrible!

Terrible experience! Not handicap accessible. I needed a hotel room same day and called the property to see if they had a Mayo discount which they did, and it was $50 more than what the normal rate was on hotels.com. I asked if they would just match the rate since I was on the phone with them. They said to just book with hotels.com. At the end of the day I went to the hotel and there was no parking anywhere. The parking garages were full, there was no street parking, and there was no solution for a handicap place to park. I called them 4 times and they kept transferring me to the reservations department which told me each time that I needed to speak with the hotel lobby and they couldn’t transfer me. Every time I called I just got bounced around. Finally, I reached someone and explained the situation and they said that I couldn’t cancel my reservation because it was made the same day and that was their policy. I asked how I’m supposed to stay there when they don’t have a handicap place to park. They told me to speak to reservations and transferred me again. I called hotels.com and they said this happened to them before and they would take care of it. They came back and said the hotel wouldn’t issue a refund and there was nothing they could do. So after nearly an hour of dealing with this and not having a place to park, I ended up paying for a different hotel and not getting a refund.

Staff is very helpful, nice location right across the street from the Mayo. Very clean, beds are comfortable, staff is helpful and friendly. Walk to restaurants and shopping. Recommend using valet for parking.

The hotel was listed as a luxury property and was far below standards. The location was excellent, being across from the Mayo Clinic and in downtown Rochester. Everything was walkable and the restaurant choices were superb. The hotel did not meet our standards. Although the rooms were small they were clean and the bed comfortable. However, this is an old hotel and showed it in many ways. The bathroom was small and with very old accessories. The tile walls were painted and not updated. The tub/shower was ancient and still had the old plumbing along with new plumbing. The shower was not useable as the water temp went from scalding hot to ice cold every 20 seconds or so. It was necessary to step away from the shower head and go back under then step away again. The water was so hot I was afraid of burns, then so cold it was chilling. The hotel room control was horrible. Our first night the temp in the room would not go above 70, ok for sleeping but not for lounging in the room. I called and asked for maintenance to check it and the maintenance man came immediately to the room but informed me that in the summer they do not have any heat so the temperature would not increase as the fans were set to not go off. I went to the front desk and asked for a room change and only received a space heater instead. We have stayed at this hotel several times but will not be returning.

It is an old hotel. Parking is over charged. Two hotels with the same bame. Vert old building and furnishings. Better options available in the area. Two hotels with the same name (probably same company too). Parking is very expensive and a nightmare. Probably will never stay in this arwa again. Better and newer hotels are a litrle away but transportation to the hospital is provided.

The bathroom was very small and the hot water was up and down to really cold to really hot while standing in the shower. Bed was comfortable and pillows too. Really like the cabinet in room,but frig didn't have a freezer to re freeze my cold packs. No room darking drapes to block out lights at night and sun in morning

So for convince this place is great. But that's where the greatness ends. I was supposed to have connecting rooms they weren't. The AC didn't work and they brought me a fan. Workers were beyond rude. Also they charge you $50 per night "holding fee" per room. If you check out a few minutes late you are charged a half day. I really think they are taking advantage of sick people. One poor man there was waiting for his wife to get out of surgery. They told him he was going to be charged half day because he was still there. He tried explaining he had to wait for his wife who was in surgery. They didn't care. I will not be staying there again!

Our experience was less than ideal. The options for parking included public ramp parking or valet. Because all of the public ramps in the area were full, we felt pressured to resort to valet parking as no other choices were offered by staff. Our real issues began the following morning, as we planned to shower and get ready before checking out. The water came out a dark yellowish-brown for an extended period of time, and would not drain. When we brought our complaints to the front desk, we were informed that because we booked through a 3rd party there was nothing that could be done. The front desk attendant did get the manager, who reiterated the previous, stating that this sometimes happens as it is an old building and some of the rooms didn’t get used often. This explanation was disappointing, as it seems like regular maintenance that should be caught during cleaning which leads us to believe the showers/tubs are not cleaned often. The front desk attendant stated that we should’ve just let the water run for a bit and it would have cleared up. This does not address the fact that the shower did not drain at all, and suggesting to let it run would have resulted in us standing in the stagnant brown water. We even offered photos and videos to show the color and lack of draining. We were offered our valet cost to be compared, and while we accepted to receive something, we felt forced into valet in the first place. $30 did not seem to match the offense for a $200 room.
