Holidays To Punta Cana

This gorgeous tropical destination in the Dominican Republic (or “the DR” for those in the know) is for travellers who take their beach getaways seriously.  After all, it’s called Punta Cana, not Punta “Can’t-a”, and there’s plenty you can do. From awesome day trips to rare jewellery finds, plus lots of beach relaxation (obviously), the only rule on Punta Cana holidays is to do what you want!

We don’t use the word “paradise” lightly, but if any place fits the bill, it’s this lively Caribbean resort town. Holidays to Punta Cana have plenty of beach to lounge on and all the water sports you could ask for. Go snorkelling, scuba diving or fishing. Pay a visit to nearby Saona Island for even more relaxation—once there, just lay out under a palm tree and listen to the surf. If you do want to get off the beach, take a day trip! Check out our Punta Cana car hire options and book it to Altos de Chavron, 80 km west. This replica Mediterranean village will transport you to another world. Enjoy a spectacular view of the Chavron River while wining and dining and browsing local art.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

You don’t even need to pull yourself away from the beach to get your shopping fix on a holiday in Punta Cana. Just head to Bi2JH2O Artisanal Shopping Plaza (pronounced “bibijagua”, but you can just call it Artisan Plaza) on Bavaro Beach for local art, wood carvings and more. If you’re a big spender rather than bargain hunter, Palma Real Shopping Village is the best stop for brand names and big stores. Wherever you shop, there’s one thing you must buy: Larimar jewellery, made of a sky-blue crystal that is found only in the DR. Souvenirs don’t get much more unique than that!

If you want to trade your thongs for, you know, real shoes, there are tons of fancy Italian, French and American restaurants at the hotels. But don’t be boring—get off your resort and get down on some real food! The beachfront dining is endless and delicious, serving up super-fresh lobster, king crab and all kinds of fish. With a bucket of Presidentes and the cool seaside breeze, you could stay here all day (and actually, you probably will).

When night falls, club-goers should make another wardrobe change and head to Bavaro Beach, which has the best discos and a formal dress code. If you never took off your boardies and you’re sure not going to now, it’s all good. Go further north to Cortecito Beach for hookah lounges and beach bars where you can come as you are. That’s what a Punta Cana holiday is all about.
