My stay at the RIU Resort in Ocho Rios was very disappointing. Customer service was extremely poor from the moment we arrived. We waited over two hours for our room and then an additional hour for our luggage to be delivered, which never happened. We eventually had to retrieve our bags ourselves. Upon arrival, no one assisted us with our luggage from the car, and no staff member provided any orientation or information about the resort amenities, restaurants, or services. We were left to figure everything out on our own. This trip was meant to celebrate a birthday. I made a request during booking for a simple birthday acknowledgment—such as a door decoration or even a slice of cake—but nothing was done, and no one followed up. The request went completely ignored, which was extremely disappointing and took away from what should have been a special occasion. The food selection was very limited and poor in quality. When we called for room service one evening, we were told there was no room service available and that we needed to go to the buffet area to get food ourselves. Overall, this experience did not meet expectations, and I do not plan on returning to the RIU Ocho Rios location. Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5) Poor customer service, lack of assistance, ignored special requests, limited food options, and overall disorganization.

The room was cleaned, the bathroom had a few hairs in it on the sink and toilet. Some of the staff were very selective about who to be nice too. They seemed extremely prejudiced. There were lots of bees around the outside bar so it was difficult to stay around. The bartenders were also selective about who would get served first. The food was cold at times. The baked goods seemed to be the same everyday. Not too many options as the menu never changed. Based on the taste of the food. They have many different chefs preparing the same food items daily.

The food was great every day. There was plenty to do close to the resort. As a guest of several other resorts, the only thing I’d advise is that more staff is needed, especially in the buffet section. I waited for water consistently. I’d rather get to know the servers, place them in the same section each day.

Upon check in we were asked to pay $606.96 USD for my 10 year old son. Whereas while booking through Expedia (Canada) we had clearly added my 10 year old and paid for it upon booking. We showed our booking confirmation to the receptionist but she refused to help! After a long exhausting flight when you just want to get into your room and relax, we were pressed to pay the charges. We opened the case with Expedia and they have been trying to the reach the hotel for clarification on that particular charge but the hotel refuses to respond or reply back to Expedia (email proof available from Expedia)

The property is big and beautiful. The staff were friendly, professional and polite. The entertainment was good too! The food was good, I will say my expectations were a bit higher because Jamaica has such amazing food. The food had flavour but lacked any kind of spice which I guess was intentional to suit all guests spice tolerance. The drinks were excellent. The pools and beach were lovely. Overall it was an amazing stay and I look forward to visiting again in the future.

This was my second time at RIU Ocho Rios, and I already know it won’t be my last. The staff truly makes you feel at home, and by day two, everyone knows your name, which adds such a warm, personal touch to the stay. The pools were beautiful and well-maintained, and my room was clean and comfortable. Overall, I was very happy with the experience. My only real issue was with dinner reservations. I did get into the Italian restaurant, but it took a lot of persistence and multiple attempts to secure a reservation, which was a bit frustrating, only for it to be able to fit in my small party, but they could have accommodated x3 One thing worth noting: during checkout, I accidentally forgot to turn in my room key and towel card. I wanted to mention it here just in case, as it was an honest oversight. As a suggestion, I’d love to see a movie or game room for adults, as well as a teen club in the future. Overall, it’s a great resort, and I can’t wait to book my next trip back.
