I was disappointed with this hotel. The whole place smelled like an ashtray. Luckily my son & I were only there to sleep for a few hours before hitting the road again! Also, when we went to make tea in the morning for our drive, the hot water was cold! We had to get on the road so we microwaved the water in lieu of waiting for the staff to boil some. They were very nice and apologetic about it, but sometimes it’s the little things that matter.

Ok for one night, allows cats- yeah!

Pros: allows cats; room was clean; lvp flooring good for animals (no carpeting in room); comfy bed; access off of interstate 80; accommodating friendly front desk staff Cons: ALL common areas wreak of stale smoke which permeates into non- smoking rooms; breakfast sparse (cereal, packaged pastry, granola bars) but coffee good; needs a “refresh” and maintenance and a really good DEEP clean everywhere. For the price it is ok for one night if necessary, especially since most hotels only allow dogs and this hotel allows cats and dogs for extra $.

Decent clean room for the price. Hotel was quiet. So we were able to get a good night's sleep. Complimentary coffee and some breakfast food was available. Room included refrigerator microwave coffee maker for anyone that's interested in those amenities.

When I showed up to check in. There was a person outside the front door asking me for my personal information and when I didn't give it to her, she went over and pestered my friend in my vehicle. Sign in was very slow. The room we stayed in was dirty. The floor was not clean and had not been swept, the room was not dusted. The toilet was not up to specs because it was almost on the floor. Very hard for a tall person to get off it and my friend is shorter than me and it was hard for her to get off the toilet as well.The mirror had water stains on it. The bottom hallway was smokie and hazy the first day, that evening it smelt like Marijuana. Their contanatiaI breakfast was very poor. There was only juice, milk, bread for toast, and a couple cereals. I will not be spending any more trips at the Econo Lodge of Newton, IA as the property was very poor. My overall rating doesn't even rate 1 star and it says its a 3 star hotel. Not in my book.
