A riad is a traditional Moroccan home that consists of multiple levels of rooms built around an interior courtyard. Windows look out into the courtyard rather than onto the street, creating a secluded atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Originally built for the upper class, many riads today serve as hotels. They’re a great boutique experience, with typically no more than 20 rooms as well as lavish décor and friendly hospitality. If you’re planning a trip to Marrakech, staying in a riad is a must.
