We stayed at Captain Pips about 5 years ago on our first trip to the Keys. We hadn't stayed in Marathon since then and decided to revisit and stay here again. Pros: -Well stocked with kitchen supplies -Great location and short drives to beaches and stores -On-site store for little items, snacks, etc. Cons -We stayed on a lower level this time. There is a THIN door inside that connects to the room on the other side. You can hear everything - and I mean everything - that your neighbors are doing. There are no private conversations. Thankfully we didn't have to deal with people carrying on late into the night. -Our trip was during the big cold snap. The bedroom ac/heat unit worked fine the first 2 nights. Third day it stopped working completely. Called the maintenance number, left a message, never got a response. Went the rest of the stay without ever being contacted or fixed. Luckily there was enough extra linens to stay warm through the nights. -"Ocean" view is meh as you're going to mostly be looking at docked boats. I'd rate it at 3-1/2 stars if I could. There's something that doesn't feel as welcoming as other places we've stayed at in the Keys, and we've stayed at a lot of different places. Here you feel more like a number and not a guest. We had fond memories of our first visit, but the cons were enough that we won't stay here again.

The room was clean and spacious. The bed was uncomfortable for me – extremely firm – so, I didn’t sleep well. Liked that the place was within walking distance to Porky’s bar/restaurant. While we were there it was too cold, wet and windy to take advantage of the amenities like bikes and kayaks. :(

Overall nice stay. Good location. Mini golf, 7 mile bridge etc nearby. Free bikes available. The marina area is dirty, dead fish, old chair, a tire, it was gross to kayak in. Room outdated. Just a new chair, dresser and painting cabinets would help.

First we turned in as our GPS told us. We could see the rooms, but could not find the office. Come to find out it was a nice large building that nothing saying Captain Pips on a sign facing our way. It was only facing the road where it could not be seen from the side. Next, when we got to our room, we had to literally go into the resorts laundry room to get to our door. It was small and somewhat tight in the room. When we looked for the plates and such we finally found the in the dresser. There was a door that goes between our room and the other neighbors room. I guess so they could join if needed, but it was so easy to hear everything coming from the other room, it was a bit un-nerving.

Check in was easy, room was clean - would definitely stay again. The room had seen some wear, but a great place to stay with friends for a fishing weekend. Our room had a patio, kitchen, large kitchen island, king bed and queen bed. Very pleasant in a great location - just east of 7-mile bridge.

The walls were paper thin and we could clearly hear every word of our neighbors conversations, well into the night. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable, slanting down at the head.
