Stay near Principe Real
Lisbon is one of our favorite cities and we were looking forward to staying in the Principe Real neighborhood. Paulo Franco, the host, met us at the airport and drove us to the apartment, gave us a brief tour, pointed out some of the amenities, gave us the keys and left.
PROS:
fabulous location;
amenities are within walking distance,
Paulo was great. It was so convenient to be picked up at the airport upon our arrival in Lisbon
Close to city transportation – bus and metro
CONS:
The apartment was suffused with a cloying, musty smell that you could actually taste. We opened all then windows and threw on both air conditioners. It took hours for the smell to diminish, but it never fully dissipated
There was rust in the bathroom on the shower caddy, the pull alongside the shower wall, and mold and discoloration in three corners of the shower floor. The toilet paper holder was broken.
We walked, one time, in stocking feet and found that after going from the ‘living room’ to the bedroom the soles of our socks were colored grey from the dirt on the floors.
Although a washer was available, we did not use it because the drying rack was rusting at various points, the rack was outside in a small.
Several other issues can be resolved relatively quickly - we did not raise them at the time because some would not be 'fixab;e' within the time we were there.
