Were transferred to this hotel due to renovations in the first hotel book. Very pleased with this hotel. Located in a very old building but obviously renovated very well. We were pleased with the hotel change.

The Westin is fantastically conveniently located for the Via Rail station (literally connected by a walkway) and (I'm guessing because I was on a ship) for the cruise terminal across the road. It's also less than a minute from a huge supermarket, and a short scenic walk from downtown Halifax and the boardwalk. But the hotel trades on its location - the price for our room was breathtakingly expensive, and the room itself was average at best. The beds particularly were terrible - old, saggy and really uncomfortable. On the plus side, the staff were lovely and the breakfast is decent (though not sensational). But overall, a tired hotel designed for maximum profit whilst only delivering moderate satisfaction.

Everything was great and staff & services would have 5 stars but for the $100 security charge at check-in which was not mentioned. Not a big deal but the desk clerk should have mentioned it. Wasn't very impressed with the 12 minute wait on hold to reach customer services when I inquired about the charge.

The only issue I can complain about is the lack of accessible rooms ... but the staff did everything they could.to make the room work by providing a shower chair, bath may forntub safety and a grab bar type of thing for the wall (suction cup style) . So A+ for the staff in making it safe for me to shower, but more accessible rooms would be better. (The hotel only has 2 fully accessible rooms with walk in showers)
