Does it seem strange that an UNESCO World Heritage Site was originally named Neapolis, or “New City”? It’s true that the city centre has plenty of history in its 448 historic monuments and churches, but beyond that, it’s skyscrapers and suburbia. As the birthplace of pizza and home to a hoppin’ nightlife, you can be historian by day and carefree party-crasher by night. So rest up while you’re in the air!
Naples is a busy city with a great subway, train and bus system in place. You can also hitch a ride on a taxi to get to the city centre. Once you get settled in, use your own two legs to get to many attractions. And if you book a flight to Naples with us, you might as well check out Wotif’s car hire options while you’re at it so you can enjoy the open road, too.

So where’s the history? We’re getting to that. Check out Castelnuovo, a huge medieval castle on the shore with the city museum in it. A lesser-known but still super-cool castle is Castel cell’Ovo, literally the “Egg Castle”.
There are tons of other historic buildings too, but if they don’t quench your thirst for the past, why not head a few hours north to “The Eternal City” itself? Check out Wotif’s Rome holiday packages. Now that’s getting your history on.
