Wat Tham Sua (Tiger Temple) is one of the most famous temples in Southern Thailand. Located eight kilometres northeast of Krabi town, a whopping 1237 steps will take you to the top of a mountain to visit a tiger's footprint. Don't forget to soak in the phenomenal 360 degree views across the mountains and out to the sea. Krabi is one of Thailand's oldest continued settlements, stone tools and pictures from the area indicate homo sapiens have inhabited the caves in the limestone cliffs since 25,000-35,000 B.C.

After the climb, go for a relaxing massage at one of the parlours in town, and take an evening stroll through one of Krabi's night markets. You will find prices in Krabi much cheaper than in Ao Nang or Phi Phi Island, so make the most of it and try the delicious seafood in the walking street on every weekend from 5pm. True early birds can't afford to miss the morning market on Maharaj Soi 9. It's the biggest in southern Thailand, but get there early because they start to close up at 8am.

Krabi boasts a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and bars in the centre of town. Catering to tourists, expats and the locals, it's possible to find live music every night. Situated in the centre of some amazing national parks, Krabi is a fantastic base to explore the surrounding islands famous for diving, snorkelling, sailing or simply enjoying the beach. Inland, there are two mainland national parks, Khao Phanom Bencha and Than Bokk-Horani. Exploring these you will find beautiful waterfalls, hidden limestone caves and endless opportunities for hiking, bird-watching and eco-touring.

Take the time to stop and appreciate Krabi. Without a beach of its own, it's off the typical tourist track, but a night or two's accommodation in Krabi will give you a glimpse into real life in Thailand. Traipse through local markets and find some great deals on products to take back home, before heading off to one of the islands like every other tourist. Do something a little bit different on your trip, and book one of our Krabi hotels and a flight to Krabi today!
