Charming Historic Hotel but Poor Service

This hotel was built by the Borax Company in 1927 and was remodeled just a few years ago. It really is an amazing oasis in the middle of Death Valley. However... Service was horrible. First of all, the only elevator was broken. We had to carry all our stuff up a flight of stairs (after first going through a tunnel from the parking lot). I suspect the elevator has been down for quite some time. What if we had been handicapped? What was their plan for us getting to our room? They should have helped us with our luggage! Second, the swimming pool is BIG and quite lovely. But the towels - before they ran out - were literally just hand towels. It would take four or five to actually cover a lounge chair, if you could get that many. Third, check-in was VERY slow. They had just one person at the desk during our stay, and she could not be bothered to hurry up. We nearly missed our dinner reservation at the Inn because it took so long for her to help us. There is no excuse for not having more help at the front desk. Fourth, during lunch and dinner people were turned away because the dining room was supposedly fully booked. Not true. During lunch on our second day we were only one of two tables occupied. At that point they started telling guests it would be a ten-minute wait. Really? Clearly they have staffing and management issues. When you are paying for a luxury experience, however, you don't want to hear excuses. I would rate their service as no better than Best Western.

Magical, relaxing, gem in the desert!!

Can't wait to come back! This is a gem in the great Death Valley. Amazing and helpful wonderful staff. Gorgeous room and grounds. Just stunning views everywhere you look. Who would think in the middle of the desert you could find such a comfortable and peaceful place to stay with so many amenities? The pool was lovely. Loved the golf carts that came with our casita. Again, can't wait to come back and stay here again. Had zero issues. Don't understand the negative reviews. Death Valley is the size of Connecticut with only two extremely comfortable options to stay inside the park, at a resort no less. This is an engineering feat! We made reservations and had dinner each night at the restaurant at The Inn. Loved the vegetarian options and wonderful staff. Deserts were scrumptious! We did not check out The Ranch due to timing. Had we known how magical The Inn is we would've booked a couple more nights.

An absolutely beautiful oasis in the middle of once in a lifetime sights. The facilities and on site restaurants are excellent. The only drawback is the sharing of facilities with the sister Ranch. Shared facilities resulted in an afternoon of kids doing cannonballs and racing all around the pool. Still a high end resort type experience.

Stay at the other Death Valley Resort

It is an older hotel so the room was extremely small. We were unable to cool it down to a comfortable level. We had to park out back, walk up three flights of stairs to register and get to our room. There is limited eating places onsite. I suggest staying at the other Death Valley resort. We visited there and it was much nicer.
