Amazing building with great history but lack of staff has made it slip in standards. Fridge was not clean and didn't work. Had to be replaced on first day. Lumpy mattress was not replaced just another padded cover put on. We stayed for 12 nights so that was bad. Main breakfast bufffet area a bit chaotic due to not enough staff. Pool area great, Planters Restaurant for breakfast was excellent. Reception staff very helpful. Chefs are exceptional. We love the hotel as a destination but costs do not reflect value for money until that 5 star magic returns.

The staff team work and ever willing desire to please the patrons is second to none. Passionately led in the kitchen by Chefs Kaali, Abdullah and Tamil the dining experience is second to none. The general manager Christoph is exemplary also and the front office team is incredibly personal. There is no weak link here. The room is spotless with the best view and this is the premier place in Penang Michael and Alana Hyde

Absolutely beautiful. Quiet. Room was totally dark at night which was great for sleeping. Outstanding buffet breakfast. excellent service. Friendly staff. Great room facilities.

Third time we have stayed here in 7 years and return to the E and O each time. Stayed in the newer Victory Annexe this time and could not really fault it.

Allocated a corner room( not the corner suite as far as I know), Room 1501, which had marvellous views of the Malacca Straits and the city from 2 balconies with amazingly spacious rooms and a double sized bathroom! The infinity pool (with deck chairs) on the 6th floor was simply breathtaking. Loved the free drinks and snacks every day from 5-6pm. Breakfasts were scrumptious but didn’t eat in the restaurants as a bit pricey, preferring to eat in the Hawker stalls elsewhere.
