We were disappointed with our stay at this property. We felt there was a lack of privacy since we were at such close quarters with those in the next room. We had a shared common area - kitchen & lounge. In our room there was a disconnected clock/radio - probably because it was unable to be used since the time was not able to be adjusted when we plugged it in. Not much point in leaving it there!! Our TV did not work - despite accurately following instructions & another ‘tech savvy’ guest who tried to assist. Prior to 7pm we phoned the after hrs assist number but no one answered & despite a message being left there was no response. We were very disappointed as we wanted to watch the Wimbledon men’s final and we were aware that we would disturb the guests in next room if we watched in the lounge room. During the night we were woken by the creaks of floor as a guest from the next room did their best to quietly go out to kitchen. In the morning we were woken at 0645 by guest/guests above moving about normally on the floor and then as they showered. It is an old property and the decor looks “tired” & uninviting. It was quite cold & there was no form of heating available in common area or bedroom. There were many rules & expectations of the guests (e.g. if u use a throw on the lounge - u r required to put it back as u found it) & everything had an extra price tag - so much so that it felt like there was little service for guests at all. Did not get what we paid for!

Thank you Mary for the feedback. You booked a standard B&B room with private ensuite & TV, this room shares a common kitchen/lounge area with one other room. Not sure about Tech savy as the TV & Clock radio worked perfectly. It's a tiled floor so not sure how that will creak. We pride ourselves on our rustic look, sorry that you don't share our taste in furniture. Heaters are available but the other guests must have put both in their room. Good manners to put things back where you find them, so thanks for doing that. You paid for a bed and breakfast in the cheapest room, we believe it's good value. We're a family so no 24 hr service, we do need to eat and sleep, after 6pm we only respond to emergencies.

If you are an older person without a smart phone, you cannot access this property. You need codes to check in and to get on wifi, but with no phone etc, this is impossible. You have to pay $6 for one hour straight for wifi anyway. The parking is very difficult - very cramped. This property is non-hosted and serviced.

This review is far from balanced. The property is hosted, the amounts for wifi are incorrect and there are 5 car bays for 4 rooms. We do not appreciate aggressive people, in G'ment depts this is not accepted, you did not want to talk to us in a civil manner even when we tried to help you, we even asked you to leave which you refused to do. We went out of our way to be friendly and helpful to you.

Central accommodation

Pros: The central location
Cons: The welcome, first impressions and general amenity of the place. The pool and BBQ area were not inviting. Signage was not hospitable.
Location: The tablelands are full of interesting attractions from waterfalls, lakes, craters and historic villages to boat and train rides and rainforest walks
Very basic accommodation. Comfortable bed and convenient location in the centre of the Atherton tablelands, providing easy access to major local attractions, which are wonderful and well worth visiting.

Sorry to hear that Kay. I suppose being winter and the pool cover on, was not inviting, but at 750 m's above sea level & our winter temps, very few guest want to use the pool. Good to hear that BlueGum is basic, that's what we advertise, our other 2 properties are more spacious and newer and more upmarket. Great to hear the other positives.

Thanks for the feedback Sharon, we'll certainly take that on board both positive and negative. Beds are difficult, we can get 2 extreme views at each end of the spectrum in the same week. We have other properties with different bed set ups, let us know next time and you can have a look. cheers

Not a real bed and breakfast

Poor foam mattress on a rickety metal frame. Rough driveway tight parking. UHT milk and only 4 slices of toast and cereal for breakfast.

Thank you anonymous, we're sorry that you were not happy but we are a real B&B and have been operating for 20 years with all relevant licences. The vast majority of our guests are very happy with the extra care and attention we give them, incl our self drive itineraries and happy faces. You received much more than 4 slices of bread, and fresh milk is not UHT milk, but it's easy to say such things in this forum without having to face the truth, we don't believe that you have the right to tell untruths in a public forum. Again sorry that you were not happy, we'll continue to do our best and provide an excellent service.

Home Away From Home

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. Our room was well equipped and very comfortable. Lovely deck area space in front of our room. Very passionate hosts who make you feel very welcome. We dined in getting takeaway such a nice space to leave.

B and B in Atherton QLD

Pros: Not a lot.
Cons: Breakfast. Bedding and pillows. Better quality coffee plunger.
Location: Too far from main shopping area and cafes and restaurants.
I was disappointed in my stay at this B and B. I found it hard to sleep even though the bed was comfortable. I found the bedding very hot and heavy and not suitable for the mild climate. The pillows were not of good quality. There were many of them but not one was a good pillow. Also there was a lot of noise from upstairs - I could hear people walking around upstairs due to the wooden floor. The noise came through to the room underneath over a long period of time. For a B and B the breakfast was very disappointing. As I cannot eat wheat there was not much available to eat. Eggs and yogurt would be a good addition to the menu for those of us unable to eat wheat products. No oats were available either. I made a coffee in the plunger which broke as I pushed the plunger down. Parking was a bit of an issue as well - as was the distance to the main street. The room itself is quite nice with nice furniture. The bathroom was lovely except there was no shower/bath mat provided. Some improvements need to be made for guest comfort for me to recommend this B and B. When back in Atherton I would prefer to stay closer to town in a Motel or old Hotel.

Thank you for your feedback Liz. We were away visiting a sick Grandmother when you stayed so sorry we couldn't help in person. We don't know what the noise was as only 1 person was there at the time. We're 1.7 kms from the main st, most of our guests love listening to the birds in the morning and feeling like they're in the countryside. If there was too much bed linen then simply remove it, as it does get cold at 750m above sea level where we are. Keep smiling LIz, we use to do a huge cooked bfast as part of our rate, however we still found that there were some people who didn't appreciate the time and effort that went into doing that and we were not financially viable. If you cannot eat wheat then you need to pass that information onto us and we'd provide alternatives. cheers john & helen

Great secluded spot, on the high side of town

Pros: Quiet, good value, friendly
Location: As above, plus great walk up to the outlook behind.
Very friendly owners. The Atherton Blue Gums is definitely to be recommended. Quiet, easy parking (next to studio) evening sun with a wine on the veranda- who could ask for more:) The studio is well fitted out with lots of wide open shelves to put all the stuff you carry with you when travelling. Has a kitchenette and own ensuite.
