  • Wotif reveals Aussies quick to embrace domestic travel

    26 May 2020 (Sydney, AUS)

Today, leading online travel site Wotif.com has released data, revealing Aussies have been quick to embrace travel, as states and territories around the nation begin to ease COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. With easing intrastate travel restrictions, the site is experiencing a significant spike in interest for destinations right across the country and Wotif.com data shows road trip destinations are proving most popular at this early stage.

Wotif Managing Director Daniel Finch says, “The simple pleasures are what cooped up Aussies are yearning for, and now with some restrictions starting to ease, the prospect of being able to go for a drive and leave the setting in which you’ve been confined to, is becoming extremely appealing for Aussies.”

“While it’s good to see travel interest is returning for the regular local hotspots, it’s interesting to see there’s a rising trend for regional areas, suggesting that while Aussies are keen to leave home, they’re perhaps looking for quieter escapes away from the crowds. We hope this is a promising sign for regional communities, particularly in areas that rely heavily on tourism or are recovering from the summer bushfires.”

With school holidays fast approaching, families are looking to lock in accommodation and visits to national parks, beaches and regional hubs, that have largely been off-limits are already looking to make a strong return.
