There are many factors influencing when and why Aussies are travelling; from visiting family or friends (46%), to planned holidays periods such as school holidays (23%), to celebrating a milestone (21%), or heading away after a relationship break-down (6%). But for others less planned, a holiday is a spontaneous occasion to pack up and getaway. Whatever the reason may be, leading online travel site Wotif have crunched the numbers and analysed the predicted average accommodation rates of some of our favourite holiday hotspots, to reveal the best time to travel in 2018. Wotif Travel Specialist, Amanda Behre says: “For those looking for inspiration or simply some guidance on when to travel, the Wotif Aussie Holiday Guide aims to help Aussies get the best deals for their 2018 holidays.” Wotif’s Domestic Tips: • A city staycation in either Melbourne or Sydney is best reserved for the winter in June. • While Perth provides affordable accommodation year-round, the best time to visit is also June. • While the Gold Coast continues to be one of our favourite summer destinations, opting to travel in late summer (Feb) or late autumn (May), offers great value for travellers with a predicted saving of almost 25%**. • While December is traditionally wet season in Cairns, December is also one of the best times to dive in the Great Barrier Reef, when visibility is good and waters are balmy, plus travellers can spare themselves up to 20%** in predicted savings. • For those looking for peace and calm, a drive along the Great Ocean Road in winter can save travellers close to 35%** in predicted savings. Plus, you can watch the whales during migration season. • NSW’s favourite wine region, Hunter Valley provides great value during both winter (June) and summer (December), offering travellers the best of both worlds. • Byron Bay's mild climate makes it a perfect place to holiday year-round, but to save close to 20%** on a holiday, travellers should opt to visit in June. Wotif’s International Tips: • A trip to Bali in August is one of the best times to visit. Not only is it the middle of the dry season, meaning travellers will enjoy more time relaxing in the sun, August also offers a predicted average accommodation rate of $115*. • While not for everyone, opting to travel to Phuket in Monsoon season (May, June or September) offers travellers up to a huge 70%*** in predicted savings, making it a fantastic option for those who play their cards right. • December is the optimal time to travel to Fiji, when the weather is dry, settled and warm and beaches and resorts are less crowded, plus travellers can save up to 30% compared to those who travel in April**. • Autumn in Queenstown is a pleasant time to visit whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, luxury or a family break and May offers travellers over 25% in predicted savings.** - ENDS - For further information or interview requests, please contact email@example.com. *The 2018 Wotif Aussie Holiday Guide is based on the average daily rate for 3 – 5 star-rated and self-rated accommodation on Wotif.com between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2017 for travel from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2017 for the described destinations.
