This hotel is very good, with comfortable rooms, beautiful details and kind attention. The only complain would be that the people working at the reception don't provide any reliable information about the city. They appear to be oblivious about the way of reaching the important places, like Borobudur and Prambanan temples, close to town. It is tempting to think that this is so by design, to prevent foreigners from going their independent way. The hotel provides transportation to the temples for 10X the price of going by public transportation, My attempt of getting basic info resulted in surrealistic conversations, close to Groucho Marx: Prambanan has a train station but no train ever stops there, or Borobudur does not have a bus terminal and the schedule for the buses going to this non-existing terminal is something that nobody knows. How sweet is this nonsense!

Friendly staff, rooms and property need some renovation and up-keeping. The bedding was good, but room interior and bathrooms are dated / worn and need furnishing replacement. The rooms facing the road are very loud. All over our 4 night at the Phoenix was pleasant.

A beautiful hotel very well located. The property is charming, with an exception pool to relax after visiting the amazing temples in Yogyakarta. And it has one of the best breakfast buffets we had in our trip.

The staff was incredible. I was last minute traveler and very organized Gita arranged sunrise Borobudur on 24 hours notice (bucket list item). Can’t recommend enough. Novak my driver to Borobudur and Prambanan was awesome Too many hotels focus on glass the Phoenix must have it down on hiring and training

The room is comfortable with a nice balcony. Pool is great and interesting information in and on the hotel throughout. A/C ok , internet fine. Helpful staff to arrange tours etc. Un walkable city, traffic terrible.

Every nook and cranny a tribute to the history and artwork of this hotel. Ask for the 1/2 hour hotel tour offered, quite interesting. Fantastic breakfast. Good dinner at the restaurant, if not a little pricy. Staff, like all over Indonesia, such beautiful people. Will stay here again and again.

Beautiful Hotel with outdated rooms

The Hotel and communal area are beautiful and the service was good. All the employees are very friendly. What we didn't like was our room, the room, the furniture and the washroom really need an update. The breakfast buffet was good. A la cart menu was just Ok. We ordered a pan fried fish, snapper, and it wasn't good at all.

Totally amazing stay at the Phoenix. The most beautiful hotel, the loveliest staff, incredible food and service. The decor of the hotel is outstanding, there is a pool and very helpful travel service to organise tours to the many different attractions around the region. I would recommend to everyone and everyone visiting the amazing city of Yogyakarta.

The breakfast buffet has an amazing selection. The building, garden and location is absolutely enchanting. The only drawback is the deluxe room we booked is overlooking a petrol station that continuously played music all night. On the second night, they have a dog that whines throughout the night. The balcony door is not sealed. If I knew that the room viewing the city will be this noisy I would have tried to book the pool view although it was not clear through expedia if I had that option.

Beautiful historic hotel with incredible service. The pool was refreshing, the food was very good. We also received excellent advice from the travel agent on site and had a marvelous 3 days with a guide. Highly recommend this hotel for a stay in the area.
