Lots of spider webs and spider in the room. Water pipe fully clog with no water flowing, not sure what checking was performed to mark the room as ready.

We loved the potential of this eclectic hotel. Room was great. Does have a/c but took awhile to cool down. Lots of different sitting areas to enjoy. We had to wait 15 minutes to get checked in. Had to call a number because no one was at front desk to assist us. After all day traveling and checking in around 4pm, we expected someone to be there. In the parking area, there was a wasp nest hanging on the fence and I got stung twice. We told the receptionist this to hopefully help someone else to not get stung and it seemed to fall on deaf ears. Breakfast is advertised on their website starting at 5am, fresh baked, innkeeper’s breakfast buffet. I thought that was an unusual time but thought it was great for those hitting the road early. We were told that the breakfast wasn’t until 7:30 when we checked in. I mentioned what the website showed and he kind of chuckled and said no. That was disappointing but we stayed to have coffee (none in the room nor in reception area) and a quick bite. However, 7:30 rolls around and there is NO activity in the breakfast room. We called the number again and same person shows up. He promised to make coffee and some type of food, which was obviously not going to happen quickly. We left without any breakfast or coffee, which is ok except it’s advertised differently. Another couple left also and said they had the same issue checking in. The Gunn House has great potential, but these problems and empty promises need addressed.

Hotel is old. Decor is period which is fine but some items were unstable. Toilet in a little room with sink and tub across the room. Bed not the best. Breakfast was in a lovely 2nd floor room and had a large variety of items.

The guy on reception was friendly and helpful at check in even though he wasn’t there when we arrived, we had to call him. We got to the room and it wasn’t the cleanest. Lots of dust and sticky surfaces, mold in the shower and stained towels. We had to ask for a clean towel and we had to call the guy on reception yet again as no one was around. In the morning we went for breakfast at 7.30 as he said it would be open. There was no one around. Another guest called him and he said he was on his way. We had to leave as we had a booking so had no breakfast. He knew we had a booking and told us breakfast would be open. The website states breakfast opens at 5am which confused other guests staying.

Very Comfortable Hotel

I already look forward to my next stay at the Gunn House Hotel again. Very nice staff, really good breakfast and cool AC for the hot days. The location is very near restaurants, convenience stores and bars. We had a great time. It's rustic, but quite comfortable.

We were excited to stay at the Gunn House, but sadly, the reality of our stay fell far from our expectations. Firstly, as my husband is mobility challenged, I asked for a ground floor room ... which we were given, but they failed to tell us that the car park is down quite a few steps, that the pool and breakfast salon are on the 1st floor up very steep and rickety stairs. So, to begin with, for anyone who has issues with stairs, I would not recommend it. Our room... where do we start.... the door was very stiff to open, and had no security from the inside at all... it had obviously swollen or twisted as each time we opened or closed it, it was a fight to do so. Although the window had curtains and blinds, the door just had nets that didn't black out any light, and the nets fell off at the slightest touch. The edge of the window where the glass meets the wood was covered in a thick film of dirt, and it was old dirt... not just a bit of dust from the previous guest. The room smelt musty to begin with until we eventually managed to turn the air-conditioning on...to achieve this, you had to stand on a stool... as the unit is so high, you cannot reach the controls. The A/c unit also extremely dusty and filthy, and it looks like the filter has never been cleaned. The floor of the room isn't flat at all, and the furniture, although picked to look antique, was falling apart, trimmings coming off the upholstery, the marble top coming away from the dresser.
