The food is pretty average for a place charging this kind of money. There is no real option as its not close to any options. The menu seems to be aimed at middle America. Kinda bland.

We spent NYE at Thala and it was just that - an outstanding experience! The service at this property is absolutely unparalleled. The Staff obviously enjoy working there, as indicated by the longevity of those that I encountered and this is reflected in the overall vibe of the resort. The highlight for me was having the fabulous resort swimming pool all to myself at 7am on NY morning, while being chauffeured there and back in a resort buggy by a lovely gentleman whose name I neglected to ask. The views from the restaurant are an experience in themselves and the food matched the views. When next in FNQ I will look forward to a return visit. Thank you to ALL of the Staff who went out of their way to make our visit to Thala Wilderness Lodge such a memorable one! Kindest regards, Anne, Lake Macquarie, NSW

Outstanding property, the perfect getaway in beautiful surroundings - really! The staff were superb, excellent service, nothing too much trouble and very professional. If I were to be super critical, I'd say the restaurant is a little expensive with limited dishes, the buffet breakfast is on the high side, particularly. That said, you'll be hard pressed to find a better location or view to go with your meal. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

We enjoyed our stay and the beautiful setting. We had a slight issue when we checked in: there was a chainsmoker on the adjacent bungalow verandah who caused us to ask for another room. Staff acted quickly and we enjoyed one of the nice ocean view rooms for one night before another move to a room with no view but close to a fantastic lookout. My advice to anyone staying here would be call the hotel to see where your room is as although all of them are identical inside the setting varies dramatically from room to room. I would also perhaps suggest to Thala that they consider removing ashtrays from verandahs and banning smoking anywhere on the premises. Aside from that issue: everything is clean, well maintained and it is a beautiful place. The rooms are fine. You are located close to heaps of amazing sights and they are very helpful in organising activities. The restaurant is really very good indeed (apart from one rather strange entree I had involving compressed watermelon, mozzarella, olives and calamari (?!) - but mains were excellent). My only wish was that the pool was heated: it seems a shame to be in the tropics with such a nice looking pool and not be able to swim in it. The temperature must have been 19C in there. I had to squeal and shiver when I got in. Needless to say not many other people braved it. Apart from that, lovely place!

Thank you Anonymous for your terrific feedback. We're thrilled to read how much you enjoyed your bungalow. With three different room categories, all bungalows are identical in size and facilities, the main difference being where they are located around the property, whether they have fores, mountain or sea views and their proximity to the Main Lodge. We do hope to see you again!

Beautiful location

Dated facilities but you pay for nature and seclusion not a fancy TV and spa, people wanting to get away will love it, those that like specifically hotel facilities beware, but that says something about the person, the stay at home iPad the children type

Gorgeous setting

Very diligent, discrete, professional, friendly staff all round. Gorgeous individual bungalows with deck nestled in gorgeous open rainforest with birds all around and the sound of the waves. Restaurant views just fabulous. Bird bath up in tree in full view and busy with feisty lorikeets. Gorgeous timber structures all around. A bit more info on the timber would be great. Gorgeous walks around property. Amazing plants with their names and origin (some may need reviewing). A few wallabies (not many maybe due to winter and not in location indicated on hotel map). Signage could be better if getting around on foot. Spa and pools were freezing cold. Not really usable. Some mould around shower door. Hair drier was not working. Bed spread was stained. Floors did not seem to have ever been swept during our 6 day stay. Could do with more power points. Vegetarian options on menu very limited. Menu very expensive but dishes were excellent. Breakfast fruit ran out unchecked very quickly.
