I absolutely LOVED the area and the hotel was full of history and charm! It was great to walk out in the morning and head over to local coffee shops. The old-style elevator was awesome and the grand staircases were wonderful. The room was average, but large. The bed was super comfortable and everything was clean and working.
I was located in a corner room that faced the main street, diagonally across from the bar. This is probably the worst room you could be in. The live music went right through the walls, the buildings made simple conversations outside the bar echo, and once it closed at 2am you have the drunks yelling. I didn't sleep the first or last night. Earplugs were useless. I had to plug headphones into my computer and put on music so just to drown out the noise.
When I arrived for check-in no one was at the desk and there was a sign that they were assisting another matter and would be back shortly. The janitor ended up coming down, seeing me at the desk, and calling for help. The sign provided a phone number for immediate assistance but I assumed they would be right back.... This was the case most of the time.. a sign at the desk so I couldn't ask to switch rooms. So when in doubt, call the number because they won't be right back.
Next time I am in the area, unfortunately, I will be finding a quieter place to stay.
