Accommodation In Lizard Island

Stunning Lizard Island is a national park that is part of the amazing Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. If you’re looking for a gorgeous island retreat, Lizard Island could be perfect for you. Have a look at our terrific Lizard Island accommodation and it will tempt you even more.

History

The national park and island group is actually made up of six different islands – including Palfrey Island, Bird Island, and South Island. Lizard Island was given its name by Captain Cook because of the abundance of lizards he saw there on his adventures.

Today, the island is perfect for nature lovers and there are also several heritage sites and cultural attractions. A visit to Lizard Island will make you feel completely and blissfully secluded away from the rest of the world. It is a place that is restful for the mind, body, and soul. The 24 beautiful sandy beaches are a major reason that people visit the island, and the powdery white sands meet spectacularly dazzling turquoise waters. The different islands surround a gorgeous sparkling lagoon, which is appropriately called the Blue Lagoon.

Snorkelling and diving are both really popular places where you can come up close and personal to a colourful array of underwater life; head to Cod Hole for an unforgettable diving experience. Fishing is also possible, and you can explore nearby islands by boat.

As well as endless days of relaxation on the beaches, you can also head inland and explore the rugged forests, swamps, and mangroves, all of which are home to a diverse selection of wildlife. There are numerous walking trails, which make exploring easy, and you can pack a picnic and really make a day of it. There are old stone sites and Aboriginal ceremonial spots that are steeped in lots of history and culture. There are some observation points where you can gaze out across the ocean and admire the beautiful views.
