We were surprised when we could NOT CONTROL the temperature in our room. It is controlled by the hotel. They did provide us with a space heater and extra blanket. They list they have breakfast , but it was continental and not a hot breakfast. Otherwise the staff, room, location was excellent!

The bed was comfortable. The rugs are old and worn. There are many shelves that have not been cleaned in a long time. There was dust hanging off the top of the moulding above the bathroom door. I found nuts on the floor. The shower was good. The room badly needs a paint job. Person at the desk was pleasant and helpful.

There were several marks on the wall and the bathroom had lots of hair from the previous guests. I luckily brought cleaning products to clean the room myself. We only stayed 2 of the 3 nights due to the noise from elevator and other guests seemed like they were in the room with us. The staff was nice however we would not return due to the noise.

Historic hotel in the center of Lexington with character. Rooms were clean and bed comfortable. Room was definitely lacking electrical receptacles and no mini fridge but otherwise quite nice. Lots of dining options nearby.

The Gin Hotel is a beautifully refurbished "Grand" Hotel in a small Virginia town. Located on Main Street in downtown Lexington, it is two blocks from Washington and Lee University and five blocks from the Virginia Military Institute. Lexington's Main Street has been reinventing itself each year over the fifty-five years since I graduated from W&L and it is now populated with unique shops, craft stores and restaurants. The hotel is quiet, clean and well maintained. Unlike when I was in Lexington in the late 1960s, the town is ringed with the usual collection of mid-level hotel chains. These are all fine hotels but ones like these can be found in virtually every town in the US. Staying in historic downtown Lexington (for the same price) is so much more fun!

Charming stay; Definitely will do it again

Room was clean and large. Hotel is very quaint and great atmosphere. Wonderfully easy and nice breakfast. Charming building. The bed was not that comfortable but sometimes that’s a personal preference…. The location downtown is fabulous and there is a balcony restaurant that’s a must. Personnel very nice and rooms are reasonably priced.

Terrific stay at The Gin Hotel! Located in Lexington, VA, the hotel is close to both Washington & Lee and the Virginia Military Institute. The property is very charming with a lot of character. Staff was very welcoming, engaging and helpful. The room was clean and well tended. They offer a free continental breakfast, which is very basic, but was fine for our needs as we are not big breakfast eaters. The property is centrally located in the town and well situated for a walk about this historic town. I was particularly appreciative of the free parking, which was located directly behind the hotel and very convenient. All in all a brief, but great stay at The Gin!

Bed linens nice, bed clean and comfy. Carpet in room filthy, smelled bad. Noisy did get a room change which helped Lobby is beautiful but rooms need updates, a shame because it is a really neat hotel. Front attendant not very friendly, overall a 2/3 rating I would not go back again Sorry. Plus price was higher than elsewhere, could have gotten better for less money. But this hotel looked so cool, very dissapointing.

Stylish historic hotel

We stayed at the Gin when we dropped our son off at W&L. The mattress was average and the electrical outlets are minimal, but the location, style, and hotel bar overlooking downtown more than made up for any deficiencies. We will be back for another bees knees soon.
