You can hear the lapping of waves as you read or eat on the lovely front deck. The majestic mountains surrounding the lake are green in summer, aspen covered in fall, and snow covered in winter.

The area is well know for its five fourteen thousand foot mountain peaks. Hiking on the many surrounding trails will follow streams, waterfalls, and valleys filled with wildflowers. There is also the wonderful Alpine Loop that takes jeeps and four-wheelers across the continental divide to the high country land of mountain Shepherds and tundra. Silverton and ghost towns such as Animas Forks are also along this route.

Of course fishermen think this is paradise. The lake and all the surrounding streams provide wonderful fishing. In September Lake City has a Wine and Music Festival. In winter there is abundant snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice climbing. The beauty and serenity of the forests at this time offer experiences to be remembered.
