What a great hotel! Clean comfortable rooms in a lovely setting, an easy walk to shops and restaurants. We especially appreciated the welcoming, friendly staff who spoke excellent English. The bar was cozy and featured amazing cocktails - the gin & tonic with "forest" syrup was my favorite (so much so that I bought a bottle of the syrup to bring home). Would absolutely recommend this hotel, and hope to visit again someday!

This is a lovely hotel with friendly staff and beautiful facilities. Walkable to the main street. The only concern was no lift to second floor, lifting luggage up and down isn't easy especially when we have young children as well.

Hotel is just off the main road. The staff were very nice to me even though I don't speak Japanese. I ended up adding breakfast to my stay and chose the Japanese breakfast option which was unique, fun, and tasty. When I checked out they offered me a ride to the train station in a shuttle and it was much better than walking. The hotel seems a bit older which gives it some charm, adds to the feeling that you are in a mountain town getaway. The main shopping area is about a 10 min walk, the pond is about a 10 min walk and the train station is about a 15 min walk. There are many bar and restaurant choices in the area, and the hotel itself has two restaurants.

Great for our young family!

We were looking for a relaxing family get-away to escape the heat of Tokyo in August, and that's exactly what we got. Hotel Otowa no Mori is beautiful, is very conveniently located (while also being quiet and a bit removed from the crowds), and the staff was so helpful in arranging whatever we needed (taxis, dinner reservations, etc.).

European-feel Hotel in Kyu Karuizawa

Hotel is a short distance (about 10-15min walk) from the station, and in a pretty quiet part of Karuizawa mid-point between the station and the Kyu Karuizawa shopping. The hotel has two stories and no lift, but the staff were very helpful in getting our luggage to the second floor, and with most queries in general. Room is of a decent size for the area, and the hotel in general is very charming and furnished with a classic European feel. Everything was clean and comfortable, would recommend!

Very Cute Hotel In Great Location

To quote my friend as we were pulling into the hotel, "This is so f**king cute!" It was cute indeed. Hotel staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The rooms were comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel. The main downtown area of Karuizawa can be reached by a short 10 minute walk.

Excellent customer service. Only negative is the age of the hotel. It is old. With old age, some of the fixtures and furnishings appeared to need some refreshment. Overall, a good hotel! We had a good time staying there for 2 nights. I would recommend this hotel.
