We had a very pleasant stay at the Cluny Hill hotel. It is simple and good for the price paid per night. We got a double bed private room with a shared toilet/bathroom to another separate room. Each bedroom also has their own sink which is nice. Towels, clean bed linen and a comfortable memory foam mattress. The Hotel was a public building before and you can tell by the usual British carpets, emergency fire doors etc. Just make sure to click the link for check-in, so that the receptionist knows what time you will arrive. Overall we’d highly recommend!

Terrible experience, nobody on reception when we arrived, had to call a number and a man said he would be 20 minutes. He turned up 90 minutes later. Very run down and in desperate need of a revamp

Property was completely unlocked and empty of people. Had to use posted number on unlocked door to contact an employee who showed up 15 minutes later. Was taken to a dirty unmade bedroom with old and mismatched furniture. Bathroom was 30 yards away with no toiletries and no mirror Water was luc warm. Carpet throughout the building was rhreadbare. After 20 minutes I decided to vacate the hotel due to watching a rat run down the hallway.

Very clean, very helpful staff. Slightly strange.environment. Old Findhorn retreat about 15 minutes walk from middle of Forres, almost a hundred rooms, but only two seemed occupied. Impression was refurbishment may be incomplete, but difficult to see it will ever have enough trade. Reception was unoccupied and accessible by mobile. It all worked, but not the typical hotel experience.

The room was spotless and very comfortable. Obviously the Hotel is in transition. By and by rooms are being prepared to welcome guests. Only 11 rooms are available to book at this point. The price per room is unbelievably low. Especially since the electricity bill must be enormous. The hotel was overheated and lights were on in almost every hall, lounge and room and stayed on during the night. Heating as well as the lights. No consideration was given to the ecological impact.

This is obviously a budget hotel now. The house itself was once a very grand house and it has a fascinating history for sure. The views are good and our room was basic and clean, as well as warm. The bed in our room (56) had not been put together properly though, so there was a metal ridge down the centre that was raised up too high and should have been placed lower. Our main issue though was that we heard loud voices at around 4am. Men were walking around the corridors of the hotel and talking loudly, They did not sound like residents. The hotel gives travellers a key to their bedroom door but it seems that the main entrance to the hotel is open 24/7. There is a person looking after the hotel but he does not sit at the reception. So it seemed to us that people were able to come into the hotel during the night via the main entrance and wander around. This was for us a pretty unpleasant experience and we did not feel safe. The hotel needs to ensure that the main entrance is lockable and that people feel safe.
