In town, you can rely on songthaews and tuk-tuks (converted trucks) for transport—and for a thrill.

During daylight, head to Nai Yang Beach, just 3km south of the airport. This mostly-locals beach is quiet, so take a nap before you hit the party scene. In the afternoon, relax at the spa with a traditional Thai massage. But wait—did someone say “party scene”? You can go from the airport straight to the club when you’re on Phuket flights landing at night.

Live Like a Local

If the way to your heart is through your stomach, you’re already living like a local. The street food scene here is 24/7, cheap and delicious. Oh, and…crunchy. Nhon mhai, takatan and jing reed are all fancy words for, well, bugs. For something a little less on the wild side, go for Phuket-style dim sum (siew boi), which involves a lot more fried foods and chilli sauce than the traditional version—yum!
