Carpet disgusting

Good points first: bed comfortable Good breakfast Shower hot But the reason this gets such a low rating is the carpet absolutely stank. I saw it was new carpet in the hallways but the room carpets desperately need replacing. I tried dousing it with body spray to no avail, but it really marred my stay. I feel for the poor student that gets this hall in term time.

The only negative aspect of the stay was parking, given that you advertise free parking and the picture shows a large parking area. Otherwise a cute room with enough of what I needed for a night away. Breakfast was absolutely amazing, thank you all

Aged and not great!

The room was far smaller than appeared in the picture, halls are dated, bathroom is not well aired and not stocked even with a bathmat. Woodwork is peeling and room is stuffy, bed is small for 2 people and parking is unnecessarily far away when campus is empty. Breakfast staff and unfriendly and militant. Won’t be using services again and this is a shame as was really looking forward to experiencing campus and being so central.

Great option for a low cost stay within easy walking distance of the centre. Free parking- reception will provide a pass to display in your car. Good, clean rooms with tea & coffee making facilities. Towels and a small bar of soap provided, but no shampoo or shower gel. Excellent breakfast with plenty of hot and cold dishes, vegan/ vegetarian options, juices, tea and coffee. Would definitely stay again.

The buffet breakfast was excellent: there were wide choices to suit every taste. The reception staff were exceptional: we have seldom encountered such a welcoming, considerate team. They did all they could to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. During our stay, there was extensive building work being carried out on the campus -which resulted in diversions and restricted parking spaces - but this was obviously a temporary problem.

This appears to be a dorm handling guests when there are no students. Possibly due to construction, it was a bit of a puzzle to find the building and then to find the reception desk. There was no outside signage at the entrance that I found. Checkin was easy. The facility is several buildings; it was perhaps a one-minute walk across the courtyard to our building. There are staircases but there are also lifts; it was not necessary to use the stairs. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. (Nothing to sit on but a desk chair, though.) I don't believe they gave me WiFi information, but there was a fairly obvious open network that worked fine. Parking... well, there's parking that's a one or two minute walk from the reception entrance, but if that's full (as it was on the Saturday of a bank holiday) you park in a larger lot that is about a half-mile walk from the buildings, so more like a ten to fifteen minute walk. Breakfast was cafeteria-style, simple but good: cereal, fruit, eggs, sausage, bacon, breads, baked beans, mushrooms, juices. It's served downstairs from reception, so again a minute or so walk between buildings, plus two lift rides.

Liked common areas to eat and socialise which were spacious. Did not like the closure of the dedicated nearby parking when no building was taking place. The reception staff were responsive and helpful when there were any issues. Some noise from other guests around 1pm. Excellent views and free facilities eg sports. A really enjoyable stay for 50th anniversary alumni - thank you all.

I found it a bit annoying that the window in my room could only be opened a bit. I don't understand why for security reasons windows cannot fully be opened (in what is essentially a 1st floor room)

The tap water gave me a horrific stomach, definitely not safe for consumption (despite no signs to the contrary) and the breakfast was mediocre at best. Shower was inconvenient, the curtain just sticks to you because its like 60cm away from the wall.

A first for me

You get what you pay for but no complaints at all. The staff we came across were friendly and helpful. Our room was basic and clean but had what we needed. Breakfast is self service . Good choice and great views across the valley. It’s a good 10 minutes walk from the train station, all up hill so a taxi may be needed if you mobility is not too good.
