The room is nice but was not prepared for the difficulty finding parking. Only on street and small lot in back which was full. Had to drive around to find parking. Had to use codes to check in which took awhile to figure out but eventually worked.

The Gaffer Inn is above a burger joint in town. I got there around 4:30 and parked right behind the place, in the municiple parking lot, expecting to be checked in. As I got out of my car, I noticed there were two men sitting outside the restaurant and smoking and, at first, I thought they were cooks - until I realized the restaurant (like at least half the stores in town) was closed. That didn’t feel comforable. Then I tried to check in....but nobody was there. I walked around to the front of the building...but nobody was there...and It was getting dark. I called the Gaffer Inn and got an answering service, and was told they would call someone who would get back to me. I waited. Then a man called and said he left me a message earlier that day with the code for the some door (that wasn't marked) to access the Gaffer Inn rental. I didn't get the code, but by that time, it didn’t matter - I was there to check in and all I got was a faceless voice telling me I should have gotten a code to some door somewhere. I was feeling very uncomfortable and told the man I didn’t want to stay there. He was annoyed and told me to take it up with hotels.com. Terrible experience. I was glad I was able to get a room at the Staybridge Suites.

The room was spacious and somewhat clean. It is more just a room than an Inn, no reception, lobby or lounge. I prefer doublets, but there was a thin sheet as your sleeping cover. Location is perfect, in the heart of Corning, very close to all cafes and restaurants, walking distance to the glass museum.

The Gaffer Inn was a great place for our 2 night stay in the charming town of Corning. Checkin is electronic with codes provided for doors. Access is a bit tricky and would not recommend for anyone who is not capable of carrying own bags up steep stairs!! Our suite was spacious with a kitchen and lounge area. Room was a bit dark. Downstairs is a nice bar selling delicious burgers (thanks JD!). There are a few other eating places, bars, and shops along the same street. Parking in a public lot at the back ($1-2/hr between 9am-5pm and free at night and on weekends). Would recommend for a quiet stay in Corning.

You have to look past the fact that the rooms are above Beer & Burger restaurant and requires the ability to take 1 flight of stairs. We had room #3 which was amazing! It was actually like having two spacious rooms. We enjoyed the ambience of the fireplace. It was a very comfortable stay. We also enjoyed the restaurant below.
