The Room was just exactlyas described. The staff couldn't have been better polite, accommodating and empathetic. Room service couldn't have been better. Food was delivered promptly, as promised and hot. Will definitely recommend The George to friends and family.

We stayed in room 461 for one night for our wedding anniversary and were very disappointed. For £390 we expected far better. Our room faced George Street, the windows were draughty and not soundproof, letting in street noise, drunken conversations, and even the sound of rain hitting the metal window ledge was loud. The bathroom was tiny (should have a sliding pocket door), with a shower over the bath and no grab rails— making it quite unsafe and awkward to get out of. The toilet flush was a big push button on the wall that required excessive force to work, difficult for anyone with arthritis. The bathroom door had a full length glass panel in it, meaning switching on the light for any night-time use illuminates the whole room. The main door had a gap underneath, letting in corridor noise and light all night. To make matters worse, the nearby lift emitted a loud squeal whenever used. The furnishings were not great either; a tatty, water-damaged table, blackout curtains snagging on frayed curtain nets, and an ironing board hidden at the end of a long, unlit, built in wardrobe, behind all your hanging clothes, makes for a frustrating stay. The only redeeming feature was the staff, who were unfailingly polite and even sent a complimentary bottle of Prosecco up to us for our anniversary. Sadly, their kindness couldn’t make up for the very poor experience of this "5 star" hotel and we won't be returning any time soon.

When we first got there, check-in went well. The woman informed us it was her last day. Weird. So we went up to our room and we noticed there was a bottle of wine and two wine glasses. We thought how wonderful because we had told them at the front desk that it was our 35th anniversary. After two minutes of being in the room, we hear a knock at the door and there’s a young kid they’re telling us the wine was delivered to the wrong room and he needs to take it back. We laughed so hard because it was so low class. Five star hotels do not do that. When we did order wine glasses for a pre-anniversary celebration it took them forever to deliver them. I called again and they brought them right away, but said the wine opener will be delivered by someone else. When the wine opener finally arrived, the young man explained that they are very understaffed. Yeah no kidding. The pillows were extremely uncomfortable. Inexplicably, the room only had one chair. Also, for some reason, they left vacuum cleaners in the hallway, which just looked trashy. That said the staff was very nice for the most part. I love the Byredo bath products too. Anyway, I think an Intercontinental can do better than this.

Beautiful decor and extremely clean. Lovely breakfast buffet and menu along with coffees in the morning. Booked premium king room. Had to move after two nights due to noise from ?something in ceiling / staff room beside us. Constant creaking and thumping. Could not sleep well even with ear plugs in. Staff moved us to another smaller room (no adjustment in room rate) and although there was a utility / fire closet in between, could hear tv next door with ear plugs in. Had to turn on loud AC fan to drown out sound. Very disappointing when paying > £350-400 per night.

Was not given the premium king room I had paid extra for when booking w Expedia several weeks prior to my arrival. I was given a smaller classic king room. The website shows pictures and dimensions of each room. I was clearly given the latter. The manager Hannah was very rude and argumentative when asked to please be given the room I paid for.. She kept arguing w me and insisting I was given the premium room. We were exhausted and had been traveling overnight from the US to Scotland and Hannah’s attitude and lack of customer service skills were disappointing. After much back and forth we were finally offered a room that better fit the description of what was paid for . On a brighter note.. The two gentleman (David and Aslan) that showed us to our rooms and brought our luggage up were very kind, personable and professional. I give them 5 stars!
