I like the [almost] over-the-top Olde English theme in this small hotel. The public space is well-appointed and comfortable. The rooms have both microwave and refrigerator, which made it convenient for me to buy a frozen dinner from the front desk when I checked in late and tired. There's a complimentary hot drink station in the lobby, and a water station nearby convenient for refilling your bottle. Staff were attentive, accommodating, and all-around lovely. The ample lighting in the room is clearly superior to any other hotel I've stayed in for the past decade. Loved the comfy chair and ottoman, perfect for reading and laptopping. Two items of disappointment: 1) No chair for the desk. Fortunately, the comfy chair suited my immediate needs. It's a strange lack for an otherwise well-appointed room 2) The ice machine was comically hard to find. Finally discovered it after wandering the corridor several times - it turned out to be an unmarked room with a door, different from the other room doors because the doorknob was missing. Relief cut short: the ice machine was out of service. At that point I wasn't willing to go to another floor, so I did without I will stay here again when I'm in Charlottesville. Shall I ask for a room on a floor with a working ice machine?

Overall, the place was decent and clean. The floor of the shower had black marks on it. If they cant get it clean, they should replace it. It would have been nice to get a map of the hotel at checkin or in the room. The parking in the front of the hotel was all taken when i got back from my evening event and i had to park really far from the front door. Being a woman traveling alone in an unfamiliar place at 10pm at night with no one around was a little unsettling. Extremely convenient location to RT 64, 29 and 250.

This place is CLEAN, and reasonably priced.

This was our family's second stay here, both times a one-night stop-over. Chain hotels on the road (Marriott, Hilton, etc.) in the DC and Charlottesville areas are almost always grubby, even if they're remodeled their lobbies, and even their rooms. It's as if they don't have enough cleaning staff, or don't care, or both. The English Inn not only looks but smells absolutely fresh and clean everywhere, the lobby, the hallways, the breakfast room. The front desk staff is alert, gracious, efficient, polite, at ease with themselves. We've not seen a single spot, stain or crumb on the floor or on any surface in the two rooms we've occupied. The hotel is off a main business road, and next to a highway, but is set back and sequestered so as to feel protected, peaceful, and restful. The included full breakfast buffet has variety and should satisfy almost anyone. Whoever owns this place seems to have principles, and pride of ownership. We'll be back, and will stay here again for sure.
