We were locked out of our room from 11:30pm-12:45am because the batteries died on the door keypad and there was no one on site to help us. I called the provided customer service number, and they were unable to get in touch with a manager or maintenance tech for over an hour. They offered us $15 in compensation, which is absolutely ridiculous and not at all reflective of the inconvenience, nor does it show that management values us at all as customers. We also talked to another hotel guest in the elevator who had the same issue with his door keypad earlier in the day, so unfortunately this was not an isolated incident. Additionally, our hotel room was not very clean - dirty tiles and grout in our bathroom, and the coffee maker was too dirty to use. Our friends staying in a different room had a balcony with a door that did not lock or latch, and their heat could not keep up. Overall we were very disappointed, we will not be returning, and we would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone.

To start, the only reason I gave 2 stars was because the couple of employees (cleaner and rooftop bar tender) were very nice and attentive. So they earned the 2 stars, not the hotel itself. The hotel was decent as far as the look. There was no parking on site and no one for valet when we arrived so we had to park 2 blocks away. No biggie but with there being no front desk there was no one there that had any info on a safe place to park. Our room was ok but definitely not as clean as it could’ve been. There were stains on get couch and hair all over the back of the bed near the head board. The heat would not go above 65 so it was pretty cold all night and the balcony door wouldn’t lock. But to top it off, we were traveling with friends for my wifes birthday and they ended up getting locked out of their room at midnight due to the batteries dying on their keypad. They were informed by someone with the phone number provided to call with issues that they could not get in touch with maintenance to get them in their room but they could get another room. All of their belongings were locked in that room so that wasn’t acceptable. Finally they talked with maintenance and able to get in after about 30 minutes. They requested some sort of compensation for the inconvenience and were given a $15 credit. Pretty ridiculous but we were informed by an employee that they are currently trying to sell the property so I guess whoever runs this place right now do not care about guests returning.

I paid to have to premium king balcony room. Looked nothing like the pictures did online. Walked in and the room was 58 degrees (January 31) and didnt get past 64 degrees by check out. I understand a winter storm came a week before, but we couldn't even open the door for balcony we paid for. There was no communication or updates regarding this. So pretty disappointing when it is supposed to be a "luxury" hotel. The remote management team did not try to even help the situation. Kinda like having a group of people manage something and they dont know customer service. Now, the manager that was on site, he actually tried to make things better. I give him that. But the actual management team is horrible This was supposed to be something special for my wife since I'm gone all the time due to career and was completely disappointed by this.

Not much staff when we were there, as it was not busy, but they were excellent. Feel like the place would have a great vibe on a busy college weekend. Room layout was great. Enjoyed our stay and would recommend, for sure. Don't know if our travels will take us there again, but would definitely choose the Doyle for another stay.

The lack of front desk / staff is a bit eerie. The lobby, bar & restaurant were completely empty even at the dinner hour, which made me decide to dine elsewhere rather than on the property. Despite the lack of hosting staff, inquiries sent to the hotel phone number were answered promptly via text. The hot water in both sink & shower was barely lukewarm, which was a huge minus for my experience.

We got our room at a significant discount, so for the price, this was a great option in downtown Charlottesville. The rooms and lobby were nice, but basic necessities were lacking. In most circumstances, the virtual front desk probably works fine (check in and check out were easy), but we requested a few extra blankets our first night and were told that wouldn't be a problem. An hour later, I checked the status and was told that everyone had gone home and we could get the blankets the next day. Additionally, upon inquiring about where we could get bottled water, I was pointed to nearby convenience stores. If you think about this spot as an apartment or condo rental, you'll be fine! And bring water and blankets!
