Front desk staff - not the best experience

We arrived just after midnight following a long journey, and all we needed was to check in and get some rest. Unfortunately, there was no one at the reception desk when we arrived. After waiting a few minutes, a staff member finally showed up. The first thing he said to me was simply: “What is the name?” — no greeting, no “Good morning,” and no apology for the wait. It felt quite abrupt and unprofessional. Typically, when you're handed your room key, you're informed about breakfast times and where it's served. This didn’t happen until I asked. Instead, he immediately launched into a detailed explanation about the swimming pool — which, at that hour, I wasn’t the least bit interested in. I had to interrupt him. I’m not sure if this staff member was from the main reception team or just covering, but either way, I strongly suggest the hotel provides proper customer service training for anyone working at the front desk. First impressions matter, and this wasn’t a great one. That said, the rest of our short overnight stay was fine and without further issues.

Outstading stay

Hotel is amazing, comfortable spacious rooms, superb power shower with lovely smelling toiletries. Room was huge, bed was very comfortable with added tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast had a superb choice of both English and continental. Did have an evening meal here which was outstanding as well as the service given by the staff. Have stayed here twice now and will definitely be back again.

This is a lovely, hotel. My disappointment was the reception staff who were not very helpful. I wanted to change my room as i had an awful and disruptive sleep due to some drunk women knocking on our door at 3am! (I also had my young child with me) So when I made a complaint to the young girl at the reception in the morning at breakfast, and asked if i could be given a quiet room. She replied "oh really? you wont hear anything today as the girls are leaving" no apology or an acknowledgement to this matter was given. She just brushed it off. The next night we were woken up at 4am with crows pecking at our window. I understand that nothing can be done about this, but maybe consider a quiet room if you are visiting thia hotel. The kitchen staff were super friendly. They really need to work on their front of house staff... they are very "blend" ..no very child friendly. 🙄 When i was leaving i asked the gentleman at the front desk if he could help me with my luggage as i have issues with my back. He sent a much older lady, and when we walked passed him he said "oh why are you doing it, get the young ones to do it" she replied they are having their break". He seemed quite cold towards her. He really could have helped but didn't. The hotel was very quiet so no rush. If i was given a quiet room then maybe my experience would have been a better one.

High quality stay, food was good, service was excellent, staff were fantastic we had an issue with the electrics going off but that was resolved in 5 minutes no problem, room was brilliant the only thing missing in the room I would say was a mini fridge for personal use would be good but everything else was perfect.

Disappointing to find a high parking charge on arrival, food and drinks very expensive, we saw several couples go to the pub across the road. Road noise when trying to sleep was irritating, not as good sound insulation as other hotels we have stayed in.
