Colourful, creative and completely individual, The Desert Muse feels more like a hidden urban sanctuary than an inner-city stay. Original art, books, plants and collected pieces fill the home with personality, while the leafy garden outside creates a private escape just minutes from some of Auckland’s liveliest neighbourhoods.

Its distinctive character and design have also earned wider recognition, with The Desert Muse recently featured on the cover of Sage Journal.

The open-plan kitchen, dining and living space forms the heart of the home, with generous room to cook, gather and unwind together. Large doors open directly to the garden, creating an easy flow between the interiors and outdoor spaces.

Mornings can begin slowly with coffee in the garden before heading out to explore Kingsland or nearby Sandringham. Spend the afternoon cooling off in the private pool, then fire up the BBQ and settle into one of the outdoor dining or lounge areas as the day winds down.

When evening arrives, gather around the fire pit under the trees or head inside for a movie on the projector. There’s no traditional TV here. Instead, movie nights become part of the experience.

The fully equipped kitchen includes generous bench space and a gas cooktop, while high-speed Wi-Fi, central heating, a washing machine and dryer make longer stays easy. Each of the three bedrooms is prepared with hotel-quality linen for a comfortable night’s sleep.

Despite its secluded feel, The Desert Muse is exceptionally well-connected. Eden Park is just minutes away, Kingsland’s cafés, restaurants and nightlife are within walking distance, and Auckland CBD is within easy reach.
