"Two one night stays, a week apart."
First room we stayed in was very nice. On arrival receptionist discovered I had arthritis and changed our room to a ground floor room. About a week later we stayed again and requested ground floor because of arthritis. Given what I assumed was a disabled room as safety handles in bath, but folding shower screen wouldn't stay open--kept hitting me in back. Was filthy between fixed shower screen and vanity--cleaner obviously unable to clean this area because no space to clean--also created slight smell. Lower kitchen cupboards all had mildew smell. Windows rattled so loudly in wind we had to stuff toilet paper between sliders so we could sleep. Room very draughty because of windows. Unable to alter heating to increase heat because of draughts. Bedtime--air conditioner wouldn't turn off--managed to turn it off about 1 am. Wet patch on carpet near kitchenette. Faint mildew smell in entire room.

    Pocket Guide: East Melbourne

Want some Melbourne accommodation in a flash part of town, close to the action but not smack in the middle of the CBD? Why not go east? East Melbourne, that is. Our range of accommodation will see you waking up surrounded by colonial buildings and huge parks only two kilometres away from all the shopping, fine food and amazing nightlife of the city. Book your East Melbourne accommodation with us for a Victorian adventure with plenty of class.

Settled in 1840, East Melbourne is one of the city’s oldest suburbs and, with no disrespect intended, it really shows its age! Home to fancy old buildings like Eastern Hill Fire Station and the four-storey Queen Bess Row, we’re pretty sure you’ll be tempted to take some snaps so don’t forget to pack your camera. This is where you’ll find Victoria’s Parliament House on Spring Street, the biggest 19th century public building in the country. If you want to watch the goings-on in Victorian politics there are public and guided tours available, or you can just admire the fine architecture on the outside.

Are you a bit of a sports fan looking to catch a game of footy or cricket? East Melbourne is where you’ll find the Melbourne Cricket Ground – the home of Aussie football and the place where test cricket began. It holds over 80 annual events including big-name musical acts. Whether you’re there for a match or a concert, it’s only a quick cab ride from your hotel. When you’re done with all the action, take a walk through the Fitzroy Gardens, 64 acres of fantastic natural landscapes complete with tall trees, cottages, statues, fountains and an ornamental lake. Jolimont’s Yarra Park, which surrounds the MCG, also has some really nice walking tracks – look out for statues of Australia’s sporting greats as you make your way through!

Of course, Melbourne itself barely needs any introduction. A thriving and busy city with plenty to see and do, from shopping in laneway boutiques to eating in five-star restaurants, it’s as vibrant as they come. Why not have a night out in the city hitting some of the trendy bars before heading back to your East Melbourne hotel?

Wot else do you need to know? Book a hotel in East Melbourne for a whole new perspective of this big city.
