I made a booking and inadvertently the date was out by one day. I made the booking with this particular hotel due to price, that it had a cancellation policy, and that payment wasn’t taken straight away.
I immediately once I pressed book that the date was wrong. I went in and made an alteration to the booking to the correct date. I was instantly charged for the accommodation – not what I was expecting – and the price went up – not ideal but I thought ok, different night different rate.
I received an email from wotif on the day we were travelling to the accommodation to say check in was 2 pm onwards. All looking great. We drove over 7 hours, arrived at the accommodation to be told they don’t have my booking for that night, but the next. My change even though made very soon after the booking did not feed through to the hotel.
The only way to resolve was to call Wotif. I was then told I had to pay even more!!!!!! Are you kidding me!!!!!! I was soooo angry and still am when I think of it.
I had to assert myself saying this was NOT acceptable. I’d already paid more to the change my booking AND the change to my booking wasn’t even done! Putting me in the embarrassing situation of standing in a hotel lobby after driving over 7 hours, tired and hungry, with many other people around me, while I’m trying to resolve the stuff up by Wotif – and now I’m expected to pay more? I don’t think so!
So after the operator had more discussions with a supervisor, I was told that I had no choice but to pay the second difference BUT it would be refunded to me.
Humiliating experience, and has absolutely soured my opinion of Wotif.
I wonder if I can trust that my next booking that I’ve made already through Wotif will be ok…..I’m thinking I should contact the hotel to double check!
