Phan Thiet Beach

Often overlooked, the town beach in Phan Thiet is a charming place to spend a day sunbathing or exploring the pretty harbors at either end of the bay.

Escape the noise and bustle of the town center and relax on the soft, white sand of Phan Thiet Beach. Enjoy a drink at one of the traditional Vietnamese cafés and watch as the rickety wooden fishing boats bob about in the protected harbor.

Although closer to the town center than any of the other beaches on the coast, Phan Thiet Beach remains a tranquil place to relax for a day. Unlike many of the other beaches, you can experience some local culture here too. Watch locals head out on their fishing boats or relax after work in the warm waters.

Rent loungers and umbrellas from the beachfront hotels and spend a few hours soaking up the sunshine. Small waves get blown in by the light afternoon breeze but the water is generally calm and perfect for a swim. The lack of watersports centers means that kite surfing and windsurfing are less popular than at neighboring Mui Ne, but it is not uncommon to see local riders gliding over the water in the afternoon wind.

Stroll along the water’s edge in either direction to reach one of the two small harbors. Gaze out over the assortment of colorful boats that stay moored here throughout most of the day. Get here early in the morning to watch the fishermen bringing in their daily catch.

Enjoy lunch or your evening meal at one of the many local cafés overlooking the sea. If you’re feeling adventurous, try curries or fish dishes the way the locals like them, while tourist restaurants offer international dishes and refreshingly cold beers.

Phan Thiet Beach is a short walk from the center of town. Stay near the sand at one of the beachfront resorts or find a variety of hotels and guesthouses inland in the heart of Phan Thiet.
