The Space:

Glacier Peak Lodge sits high on a forested hillside in Yosemite West, a quiet residential pocket reached through the gates of Yosemite National Park off Wawona Road. Across 3,200 square feet and three levels, the home is built around what it looks out at. A two story wall of windows in the great room frames ridgelines, deep forest, and the canyon beyond, and the light moves across it all day long.



Inside, vaulted tongue and groove ceilings and exposed beams run the length of the main level. A stacked stone fireplace with a timber mantel anchors the living room, the kitchen opens straight into the dining area, and a long plank table seats the whole group. Sliding doors lead out to a wraparound deck where the pines come right up to the railing.



Whether you are here to chase waterfalls, ski Badger Pass, climb, fish, or just sit in the trees for a few days and let your shoulders drop, Glacier Peak Lodge puts you inside the park with room to spread out.

Bedroom 1 is the primary, with a king bed, a built-in window seat, and vaulted wood ceilings.

Bedroom 2 features a queen bed with windows looking out to the deck and the pines.

Bedroom 3 is set up for families and larger groups, with a queen bed and three twin beds.

An additional sleeping space offers a fourth queen bed.

Four roll-away beds are available when you need them.



Bathrooms

Three full bathrooms give a full house room to move in the morning. Two have tiled walk-in showers behind glass doors, one has a full tub and shower combination for a long soak after a day on your feet, and all three have granite vanities. Standard bath amenities are provided, including shampoo, conditioner, soap, and fresh towels.



Living Areas

The great room is the reason to book this house. Vaulted tongue and groove ceilings climb to exposed beams, a stacked stone fireplace with a heavy timber mantel holds one wall with a large TV mounted above it, and a two story bank of windows holds the other, framing forest, ridgeline, and canyon. A deep leather sectional and a pair of chairs face the view. Ceiling fans turn overhead, the hardwood runs warm underfoot, and sliding doors open to the deck, so the room works just as well for a rainy afternoon of cards as it does for the evening everyone crowds the windows at sunset.



Kitchen & Dining

The kitchen is set up to feed a full house. Granite counters, a gas range under a stainless hood, a full size refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and a double sink give you real room to cook, and the island adds bar stool seating for whoever is keeping the cook company. Just beyond it, a long rustic plank table under a candle style chandelier seats the whole group, with windows on two sides bringing in the deck and the trees. Breakfast before an early trailhead and a slow dinner after it both happen here.



Outdoor Space

The deck wraps the house and gives you several places to land. There is an outdoor dining table for meals in the open air, sling chairs lined up for reading and watching the light change, and a grill for evenings when nobody wants to cook inside. Pines stand close enough to touch, the ridgeline shows through the trunks, and after dark the sky over Yosemite West is genuinely dark. Mornings out here with coffee are the part guests write about.



The Views

Perched high above the road on Henness Ridge, the home looks out across forested ridgelines and the canyon beyond. The two story window wall in the great room turns that view into the main feature of the house rather than something you have to go looking for, and it changes character through the day, from first light on the ridges to alpenglow to a dark sky full of stars.

Glacier Peak Lodge sits in Yosemite West, a small residential community reached through the gates of Yosemite National Park off Wawona Road. Staying here means the park's headline sights are a short drive rather than a long morning commute from a gateway town.

• Badger Pass, the Yosemite Ski and Snowboard Area, about 15 to 20 minutes, for downhill runs, tubing, snowshoeing, and Nordic trails

• Tunnel View, about 20 to 25 minutes, for the classic first look at El Capitan, Bridalveil Fall, and Half Dome

• Wawona, about 25 to 30 minutes, for the historic hotel, golf, and swimming holes on the South Fork of the Merced

Guest Access:

Guests have full access to the main house, including the great room, kitchen, dining area, laundry room, and the wraparound decks.



Self check-in is available with a keypad, so you can arrive on your own schedule. Your entry code arrives in your check-in email, and the door is at the very top of the stairs.



Parking is on the property. From April through October the driveway holds up to five vehicles. From November through April the driveway holds one large or two compact vehicles, and additional vehicles may be towed, so plan to carpool up if you are coming in winter with a full house.



From November 1 through April 30, the home is reached by an exterior stairway of 26 steps up to the main entrance. Snow chains are required in the park during snow events, including in 4WD and AWD vehicles.



The lower apartment has a long term tenant from April through October and is not part of your rental.



The Neighborhood:

Yosemite West is a small residential community tucked into the pines off Wawona Road, inside the gates of Yosemite National Park between the Valley and Wawona. There is no commercial strip here, and that is the whole point. What you get instead is quiet, dark skies, clean mountain air, and deer moving through the trees at dusk.



It is a base for people who would rather wake up in the park than drive into it. Trailheads, overlooks, and the Valley floor are all a short drive, and at the end of the day you come back to trees instead of a parking lot.



Getting Around:

A car is necessary here. Yosemite West is reached off Wawona Road, Highway 41, through the gates of Yosemite National Park. Coming from the south, the drive climbs up through Oakhurst, Fish Camp, and the South Entrance.



In winter, chains are required in the park during snow events, including with 4WD and AWD vehicles, and roads can close with weather. Check 1-800-427-ROAD for California road conditions and 209-372-0200 for park roads before you travel.



Cell service is spotty in the mountains, so download your directions and check-in details before you head up, and fill the tank before you arrive since fuel inside the park is limited.
