I stayed at Gray Wolf Inn & Suites in West Yellowstone. Our room was on the second floor. Upon getting off the elevator, the chlorine smell in the hallway was overwhelming, likely from maintenance staff cleaning rooms nearby. When we entered our room, the chlorine odor was so strong that we had to open the window, which was difficult to slide and revealed a window screen covered in dust and dirt that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in over a year.
After taking a shower, I discovered the in-room hairdryer wasn’t working. I tried calling the front desk, but the room phone was also not functioning. I walked down to the front desk to ask for a replacement hairdryer, but was told they didn’t have any extras available. After informing the front desk about the broken in-room phone, a maintenance staff member very promptly came to our door. However, by then we were tired and ready to rest, so I told him there was no need to fix it anymore.
Noise was another issue — we could clearly hear footsteps from the floor above, as well as people walking by our room, which made it difficult to get a good night’s sleep.
This was a last-minute booking, and I’m glad it was only for one night. Other than its convenient location, I wouldn’t return to this hotel. Next time, I’d rather stay somewhere inside the park — at Yellowstone Hotel & Cabins, we paid $100 less for one of the cabins and had a much better experience or for $20 more we stayed in the room at Canyon Lodge.
