Kleine Kunstremise mit Holzofen Burg Freienfels

The small art studio along the Weiltal valley and Weilstrasse in the Taunus region is a small cottage measuring 55 square meters on the grounds of a former mill estate. Heated exclusively with wood, the cottage invites you to relax and unwind, or to explore the Weiltal or Lahntal valleys by bike. On the property, right next to the stream, you’ll encounter dogs, cats, chickens, and—occasionally—an egg.
Most recently, the Remise was used as a studio; now, art objects by regional artists continue to bring the space to life.

The Accommodation
At the foot of Freienfels Castle, we warmly welcome you to our property—a former mill estate situated along the stream in the Weiltal valley.
The “kleine Kunstremise” was once the workshop and repair building; over time, it gradually transformed into a studio and eventually into our guesthouse, where art by local artists continues to be exhibited.
On the first floor, the garage door leads directly to the outdoor area. Down here, you’ll find a bathroom with a tadelakt shower, the kitchen-living area, and a sofa nook with a sleeper sofa and a wood-burning stove. On cooler days, the stove is lit before your arrival, inviting you to relax and unwind after your journey. If you enjoy a crackling fire and the cozy warmth of a wood-burning stove, then you’ve come to the right place. Heating with wood requires mindfulness, a little skill, and—above all—fun!
The extendable dining table in the kitchen-diner can also be used as a desk.
A steeper indoor staircase or an outdoor staircase leads you to the upper level (the lower and upper levels are not separated by a lockable door), where an original French bed awaits you for a rest. This one-of-a-kind piece was originally created from two identical single beds that were collected in France and restored here.
Up here, too, there is a stove, and the cozy sofa nook invites you to linger.
Please note that these two rooms cannot be separated by doors!
What makes this cottage special is the chance to discover many old and new items; if you like a piece of art or a piece of furniture, you can purchase it on-site and take it home with you. This means that photos on the platform may not always be updated quickly enough—especially if a new chair is already waiting for you ;)
Our property runs along the well-known Weiltalstrasse and borders the annual Knights’ Tournament held in May. You can enjoy the jousting tournaments to the fullest, participate in them, and reach the venue on foot—simply cross the stream. But even from our site, we can hear the music, smell the campfire, and watch the knights warm up their horses.
From here, you can easily explore the Freienfels Castle Ruins, the Kubach Crystal Cave, or the Weiltal Valley on foot or by bike; starting from Weilburg (approx. 5 km), the beautiful Lahn Valley awaits you.
If you’re arriving by bike, you’re welcome to store it in our barn; there’s also plenty of space for your car!
