Person painting the house was right outside the bathroom window which had peeling opaque film for privacy. At 8:30 p.m.! A bit eerie. Bar patrons outside below bedroom window smoking pot and cigarettes - stinky. Stairs to suite very steep with narrow treads. Dangerous and certainly not to code.

Love this place! Stayed there three times. Beautiful Victorian homes in the neighborhood. Well kept, very clean. They go out of their way to make you comfortable. Such kind people caring for you. Nice restaurant on the lower floor, very good food and wonderful staff. Walking distance to the waterfront, Parliament building, buses, Museum and Victoria Clipper. Doesn’t have air conditioning or elevator,but I am 80 years old and didn’t have a problem. So worth a stay. Off the beaten path and so quiet. I’ll stay there again 💕

Just exploring lovely Victoria. James Bay Inn was perfect for me. Walking distance to many sites to see. Definitely recommending the restaurant & pub downstairs. Speaking of stairs, there are no elevators but they help with getting luggage up & down.

A nice older building in a quite part of Victoria surrounded by beautiful old homes. Free parking and very convenient if you are catching the Coho Ferry. Unfortunately the room we stayed in was main floor with a window with no view except the side of the building next door. As well, the fridge had not been cleaned out from items from the previous guests.

Loved our stay here!
Very friendly check in, and staff had a friendly word anytime you encountered them. We got the feeling our stay actually mattered to them. Older hotel, a little worn around the edges, walls and steps lean a little, adds to the charm. Our room was spacious, clean and comfy and the location was perfect for exploring downtown and the wharf, while not being in the middle of all that nonsense. We had a car so free parking was an important feature. We would definitely return.
