Upon first arrival the hotel and room looked modern and nicely decorated. However the bed for our teenage daughter was a Z frame bed, which was uncomfortable it meant she slept on the floor! The noise from the room above, them walking about was a constant distraction due to unsubstantial insulation between floors. It sounded as if they were walking in your room. This meant we didn't have a restful night.

Room was spacious. Clean. Could do with a bit of a refurb perhaps. Spa and pool were nice. We didn’t take the pre paid breakfast option. There is a far better offering in the restaurant of all day breakfast which is table service and higher quality/ better options. The pre paid breakfast would have been wasted on our two very young children.

Stayed at the hotel as I was attending a birthday party in nearby Earls Colne. The hotel was easy to find and location to the village was excellent. Staff were so helpful from check in to check out. Was a slight issue with my room during my stay but this was sorted expeditiously by the duty manager and housekeeping. Would recommend a stay here and would certainly stay again next time I visit the area.

Good place to stay if you want access to road links. Golf course is busy and the lawn mowing starts at 7am so if you want a lie in that's not always an option.

I enjoyed my stay at The Essex, I was a female solo traveller and stayed for 2 nights, I couldn't fault the spa facilities they were lush! The breakfast buffet was a bit small but you could order what you liked from the menu at no extra charge with plenty of options! Unfortunately there was a problem with the electrics in my room and they had to be rebooted a couple times. The electrics had damaged my hair curling tongs. I mentioned this to the manager and she even tried fixing them which I really appreciated. When they couldn't fix them she stated they would buy me new ones as a replacement! The manager Elaine, emailed me the next day with the order number on Amazon stating they would be delivered the next day, so I am so so chuffed at the help I received from her and couldn't be more grateful I have had the curling tongs replaced. The staff also moved me rooms to another deluxe double to solve the faulty electrics. I am very happy with the staff who were lovely and really helpful. Would really recommend this hotel. Thank you again guys 🙏
