Welcome to Stowe
Stowe, Vermont sits in the heart of the Green Mountains, nestled between Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak, and the Worcester Range. Long before ski lifts, gondolas, and vacation homes, this valley was home to the Abenaki people, who traveled these mountains and waterways for thousands of years.

European settlers began arriving in the late 1700s, and for much of its early history, Stowe was a quiet farming and logging community. The mountains surrounding the town were beautiful, but rugged and difficult to access. That began to change in the early 20th century, as travelers discovered the beauty of Vermont’s mountains and came looking for a place to escape the cities and experience the outdoors.

Then came skiing. In 1933, Vermont's first ski tow was installed in Stowe. A few years later, the Civilian Conservation Corps helped build the famous Toll Road climbing Mount Mansfield. Over the decades, Stowe grew into one of New England’s most celebrated mountain destinations.
But today, Stowe is much more than a ski town.

Mount Mansfield rises to 4,393 feet, the highest point in Vermont, with sweeping views across the Green Mountains and, on a clear day, far into New York and Canada. The Long Trail, the oldest long-distance hiking trail in the United States, crosses Mount Mansfield as it winds more than 270 miles along the spine of Vermont.

In the warmer months, the same mountains that attract skiers become a playground for hiking, mountain biking, fishing, swimming, kayaking and exploring. Summer evenings stretch long into the day, while fall transforms the Green Mountains into a spectacular display of red, orange and gold.
And then there is winter.

Mount Mansfield's elevation and northern location help create some of Vermont's best winter conditions, drawing generations of skiers and snowboarders to Stowe. But you don't have to be on the mountain to enjoy winter here. A quiet walk through a snow-covered forest, a warm fireplace, or a cup of coffee after a day outside can be just as memorable.

Stowe also has a fascinating connection to the other side of the Atlantic. In the 1940s, the von Trapp family, made famous by The Sound of Music, settled in Stowe after leaving Austria. Their Austrian heritage remains woven into the town today, from food and music to architecture and traditions.

Downtown Stowe itself feels like a postcard from Vermont. Historic buildings line the village alongside locally owned shops, restaurants, breweries, bakeries and cafés. Just beyond the village, quiet country roads wind through farms, forests and mountain valleys. Covered bridges cross small rivers and streams, and around every bend there seems to be another mountain view.

There is something about this town that feels different. It isn't simply a place to visit — it is a place to experience. You can spend the morning hiking a mountain, grab lunch in the village, explore a country road in the afternoon, and finish the day relaxing at home as the sun disappears behind the Green Mountains.

Welcome to village living in this charming historic Cape, tucked away on a quiet residential street in the heart of Stowe’s historic district. Here, you don't have to get in the car every time you want to explore. Wake up and take a two-minute stroll to Main Street for morning pastries and coffee, wander through the local shops, or simply take a walk and enjoy the historic character of the village.
Head up Pleasant Street and you can step back in time with a visit to the Stowe Historical Society and the town's former one-room schoolhouse. Interested in art? The Current offers changing contemporary exhibits inside a beautiful 19th-century school building affectionately known as “Old Yeller.”

At the end of the street, an evening stroll up Sunset Hill rewards you with beautiful sunsets and breathtaking views of Mount Mansfield, the village below, and the gleaming white steeple of the Stowe Community Church. And when you're ready to explore a little farther, the Stowe Recreation Path is nearby — a scenic six-mile trail that winds from the village through open fields and along the rivers toward the ski resort. It is perfect for walking, biking, or simply taking in the scenery.

Built in the early 1800s and lovingly restored, this historic Cape combines the character of old Stowe with the comforts of a welcoming home. The first floor features a bedroom, spacious kitchen, two living rooms, an office, and a bathroom. Upstairs are three additional bedrooms and another bathroom, giving everyone room to spread out while still providing plenty of comfortable spaces to gather.
Outside, the beautiful stone patio is surrounded by lovingly tended perennial gardens — the perfect spot for morning coffee, afternoon lounging, cocktails and evening barbecues. As the day winds down, gather around the fire pit for s’mores, stories and cozy evenings beneath the stars.

One of the things we love most about Stowe is that adventure is never far away. You don't have to plan every minute of your vacation. Sometimes the best memories come from turning down a road you've never driven, finding a swimming hole, stopping at a farm stand, discovering a little restaurant, or simply pulling over because the view is too good not to stop.
