Beautiful room with sea view , all staff were both welcoming and very helpful , meals at night and breakfast were great , and it is a stunning building in a beautiful location , loved our stay couldnt fault anything , what a great place for a relaxing break , we visited in nov but bet its even more stunning in summer , will definitely visit again

This was a special booking for us. My mum got married here nearly 30 years ago. Due to ill health; this is their last time being able to get to the hotel. So we decided to surprise them with staying for the night…they thought they were just going for lunch. I reached out to the hotel to explain the situation & from the get go; they were exceptional with their support in making it a memorable experience. Nothing was too much trouble. We were kindly gifted room upgrades to make it extra special. A picture from their wedding was emailed & they added it into my parents room. The lovely ladies on reception helped delivering the surprise. Coming to the restaurant to deliver their room keys. A lot of “no, you’ve got the wrong people” & yes it’s for you…when it sunk in, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. It was such a special stay with so much sentimental value. I cannot praise the staff - everyone we interacted with were warm & welcoming. The hotel itself has clearly changed a lot since they originally got married. The communal areas are absolutely stunning. Really modern. It felt like I could be in a beach club in the med (but snow when we looked outside!) I cannot thank everyone enough for making it so special! I wish we could come back again!!

Unfortunately there was some confusion over the Expedia booking and the hotel data which took some time to resolve losing our remaining daylight hours to enjoy the location. Jo on reception resolved the problem as quickly as she could and ensured we were looked after. Overall the hotel was really nice as were the staff who we met.

Two night stay.

Staff very friendly and efficient in check in and food.Two points, firstly the wardrobe only allowed short items and not possible to hang a raincoat or trousers etc. For the inroom items, for one smallpacket of biscuits for two people in a room costing about £200 is frankly being expectionally scrooge.

Grand Villa Heights is in one of the most lovely places I know in the UK. It's warm, quiet, large rooms, and comfortable with a touch of glam for big events. I was a woman alone, and felt comfortable and supported: people friendly but not over-friendly, time for a wee chat. The bar/eating area is well laid out and spacious. I think the menu doesn't have enough non meat alternatives, but I was able to negotiate simple meals for my diet. I suggest 3 more meals on the menu based on nuts, pulses, etc very strongly - whats great is chef will accommodate you willingly. The coffee is dire! Needs upgrading. But all in all - do come and enjoy this relaxing hotel.

Lovely room with a spectacular view. Food good tho’ wine a little pricey - you’re a bit of a captive audience up there. Parking fine. Nice walking nearby, with the seal colony a special treat (not to close tho, eh?) Nice staff. Clean and shiny inside.

Our favourite venue.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The hotel has its own large car park conveniently close to the hotel. We had Sunday lunch there which was excellent. There's a wide choice of options for breakfast plus a help-yourself breakfast bar. We always have the full English which comes freshly cooked and piping hot. The views from the hotel and variety of walks in the area are second to none.

Had to move rooms because the carpet was all loose and dirty. The second room was tatty wall paper peeling, no hot water in the basin, pull cord in the bathroom broken , handle on the bathroom door falling off and the latch falling out , breakfast wasn’t hot the only good thing was the view . An amazing stay. The dining experience was excellent and the renovations that are underway at this venue is out of this world. The bedrooms are very tired and but very desirable but clean and comfortable and price reflective - a dog friendly venue - dogs welcome in all spaces. Brilliant !!! the bedrooms are scheduled for renovation November 2025 - if these are going to be designed and completed to the standard of the social spaces then the grand villa hotel will be outstanding and I imagine one of the best wedding venues in North Yorkshire

Have visited GVH regularly when it was the Ravenscar Hotel, but have never stayed. The hotel appears to be transitioning in to a wedding venue, to the detriment of the hotels other guests. The bar breakfast and lounge area used to be overlooking the scenic bay. This area has now been pushed to the rear of the hotel,in a rather drab and dreary room with no charm or outlook. Whoever decided to paint the ceiling of this area in the same depressing colour as the walls must enjoy living in a cave. Even though we enjoy the area and walk here regularly this shift on emphasis does not entice me to make a return visit. We had a meal in the restaurant on the Saturday evening, this was overpriced so we expected very good quality. This was not to be, the “oven chips” to go with the meal were cold and undercooked and so had to be returned to the kitchen. Over all we love visiting this area, and enjoy the ambiance, character and charm of the hotel. However it appears it has lost its soul.
