I have very mixed feelings about this hotel because it holds a lot of sentimental value for me — I’ve been coming here since I was a little girl. When I first arrived this visit, I was greeted very kindly, but unfortunately that warmth seemed to fade as my stay went on. Some of the staff were truly wonderful and made positive impressions, while others were noticeably unfriendly or dismissive. The rooms have been remodeled, but they were already updated on my last visit, and this time the renovation just didn’t feel well done or very clean, more like a quick, cost-effective refresh. I even found ants in the room, which was really disappointing.
The pool area was actually much nicer than before, which was a highlight, but there’s still no hot tub is disappointing but the pool is heated. For a property like this, that feels like a missed opportunity.
The food was unfortunately subpar, which is sad considering the hotel’s stunning grounds, rich history, and overall potential.
My biggest frustration was being told that a 1:00 PM checkout would cost $100 per hour on a Monday afternoon when the hotel didn’t seem busy. I’m used to Marriott and Hilton brands being far more accommodating in situations like that.
This is one of the most expensive hotels in the area, yet it really doesn’t feel like it when you’re there. It’s a beautiful property with so much charm and history. I truly want to love it. It could be amazing.
