Incredible location, surrounded by mountains and next to a lake. Great walking in the area, with fantastic scenery. Walking distance from both the Hohenschwangau and (a bit further) Neuschwanstein castles. About 40 mins walk each to the towns of Schwangau and Fussen; there's various good museums in the latter. Tegelberg mountain has spectacular views also and can be reached by cable car from near Schwangau. Breakfast is excellent, with full cooked options (not just 'continental'). Our room was a good size and well appointed, with a balcony view. The hotel was in excellent condition throughout. As with all Bavaria - you need to get to dinner by 7pm, wherever you dine. Kitchens close promptly at 8, which seemed to catch others out too (the bar's kitchen closed later, at 9:30). There's little to do in the evenings near the hotel, but after the day's activities you'll probably be ready for sleep anyway. Overall, a lovely, modern hotel with enough locally to spend 10 packed, enjoyable days. Note hotel parking is paid for, at 14 Euros a night.

The stay was quite remarkable we picked a Mountain View room and ended up getting the corner Mountain View room that looks up towards the Neuschwanstein Castle itself! Breakfast was very well done!

I would recommend

Excellent spa hotel just a few steps from the castle (the closest you can be). Very close to restaurants and shops from the little village. Nice breakfast and beautiful hotel. Only negatives were that my son’s bed wasn’t made despite the reservation clearly saying it was for 3 people. I had to ask twice before they came to set up the bed. Also I wanted to use the spa on the day of check out and they charged me 10 euros per person!! I didn’t even use the spa on the day before because I had to visit the castle.

Simply Magical

Family room was spacious, amazing views. Excellent breakfast with view of castle. Spa was wonderful, every detail was well executed. Don't skip taking a swim in the Alpsee or the half board dinner.

I live here, about a hour away, but this was my little sister’s first European trip and hotel experience. I thought I’d treat her, since it has been a childhood dream of hers to visit Neuschwanstein and Bavaria. Unfortunately the hotel choice wasn’t the best. The A/C was broken and with the window tilted open it was too hot…neither of us could sleep the first night. The second night we left the patio door wide open and the A/C off and it was better temperature-wise but I still couldn’t sleep because I was uncomfortable with the door being open because we were in a ground floor room. We ended up being too exhausted during the days from lack of sleep to do anything other than our booked tours and short local walks. Unfortunately too, we couldn’t get a spa treatment booked, because they are apparently booked so far in advance. I wish they had offered the choice to book when we reserved the room. The breakfast was fairly average. It looked like they might have gone the extra mile for an omelette bar, but only the omelette ingredients were ever there…no cook ever showed up. So it was a very typical continental breakfast offering overall, with extra super salty bacon. Sadly not a restful or relaxing stay, and a significant waste of vacation savings. Overall, definitely not the same experience as I’ve had at other hotel spas in a similar price range, and less relaxing than many cheaper places.

First time there. Will be back! A definite recommend if you are in the area to see the castles. Staff is very helpful and most speak English quite well. Each building is its own look, feel and room type. There are elevators but expect some walking and there are hills. Not like the hill to the castle (take the bus or horse carriage). Try it. Make your own opinion. I loved it.

A Walk to Neuschwanstein (45 minutes) & Hochswangau (30 minutes) castles is beautiful. Buy tickets to do both. Very nice breakfast buffet. Hotel staff is lovely. Spa is either severely understaffed or not staffed at all.

We stayed in the older section of the property. Whilst it was quaint, it was disappointing that there was no AC. Given the fact that it was very warm, no AC made for a challenging sleep and after a long haul flight that was challenging. To be fair, I was offered an upgrade to the new part of the hotel, however as we were only there for one night, I felt that price I would have to pay was unreasonable. I was particularly disappointed in the quality of the towels in the bathroom. However, the staff were kind and breakfast the next morning was lovely.
