The views were stunning nd the staff is as friendly as can be! My room was amazingly facing one of the best views I've seen in the northeast of England. So why the 3 stars? Well the room itself need ome serious updating and the heater was working a little too well, I had to open the window to get some relief. Also the room was anove the main entrance so no sleeping in as you heard the staff during smoke breaks yelling to one another and guests leaving also it was the room where housekeeping kept its cart outside so heard them as well... on balance great stay but not if you want a lie in

The first room 219, given was diabolical. Not fit for paying guests needs a total renovation and it was dirty. After complaining they readily agreed to change rooms which was a vast improvement.

The hotel is in a striking location on the cliffs overlooking the shore, surrounded by the sound of crashing waves. It’s a fairly long walk to the town proper, but I loved the location. That’s really the only good thing I can say about the hotel. It was tired and showing its age. My room was clean but had patches of peeling paint on the walls. It smelled of a combination of seaside dampness and “30 years ago people were allowed to smoke in here”. On the first night the wind was so strong it rattled the windows and the extraction fan in the bathroom so loudly I struggled to sleep. Until I realised the window had been left slightly on vent and closed it fully, even leaving aside the rattling, the wind combined with the waves meant in the early hours of the morning it sounded a bit like a jet engine was running outside the building (until I figured that out, I was considering cutting my losses and trying to book a different hotel at 2am). One day I accidentally knocked a secondary latch on the room door when leaving, locking me out when I got home that evening, and the very helpful guy on the front desk - in a very practiced way, this clearly being a regular occurrence - came up with a screwdriver and jimmied around through a hole in the door until it unlocked. It was very inexpensive, and the staff were great, and really helpful whenever I needed them. But it wasn’t a great experience and I wouldn’t recommend it or go back.

Check-in Was Fast As We Did That Online. We Had A Room Next To The Elevator But To Be Honest We Never Heard It. The Room Itself Could Have Done With A Fresh Coat Of Paint, The Windows Were Open And The Radiator As We Discovered Did Not Work. We Ended Up Asking For Another Room After About An Hour Or So Of Waiting For Some Heat That Never Arrived. The Second Room Was 2 Floors Directly Above The First one But At Least It Had Heating Which Was Great As It Was Only 8* Outside. Room Was A Good Size And Bed Was Comfortable.

Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Lounge area was lovely and if it had soft music playing would have been even better. This hotel is not for people who have difficulty with slopes or steps as it’s on the top of a hill and a fair walk from anything. The hotel rooms (we had a sea view room) are tired and need painting and mould and mildew spraying in the bathroom. The bed was comfy and the bedding and towels clean and soft. The clientele are from the Starwars bar and therefore were very noisy at 2am when they came in. We won’t be staying here again it was not for us, we prefer the South Bay and I recommend anyone booking Scarborough stays in the South Bay especially on The Espanade above The Spa. We’ve been coming to Scarborough for 35 years so know it well.
