Nobody was on site to receive me when I arrived. Luckily, there was a person who showed me in, who I only learned later was a guest. She showed me a room, I took it. It had a door key. I sent a message to the management that I had arrived. Nobody responded for more than 24 hours. The gate and the house itself were never locked and there was no guard on the premises. This is San Pedro Sula, folks-THE MURDER CAPITAL OF CENTRAL AMERICA. I know people who live in the area and nobody would ever leave a door unlocked much less the outer gate-every house has high walls around it. Two days after I arrived, I was contacted by someone by message, who asked where I was. I explained that I was in a single room, I gave the room number. This person claimed there were multiple properties and I was in the wrong house. I responded that this was the listed address and I was not given that information before checking in, and furthermore, nobody was around who could answer any questions. And the worst of all. The gate was never locked, nor was the house. Then there was no potable water most days, and no coffee or appliances with which to cook. This is a nominally gated community, but the guards at the community entrance were not informed of my arrival. The dangers, the risks of what would happen if one was locked out, the total lack of response from management, the disinterest in satisfaction among the guests-all were zero. Electricity was sometimes out. There are hotels nearby, stay there.
